Meeting Jett was like bad luck. Dangerous. Unpredictable. And better avoided. In his game, the stakes are high. But are they worth the risk?
Brooke Stewart, a realtor in New York, finds forgetting is hard, but forgiving is harder. When the man she trusted, betrayed her, the only way to forget is to move on. Brooke is determined to start a new life, until she meets him again: the green-eyed, sexy as sin, six foot two sex god. The man who played dirty. The man who played her.
Sexy, rich, and arrogant Jett Mayfield knows he has made mistakes. He could have any other woman, and yet it’s Brooke he wants. When second chances collide with secrets and Brooke is threatened by the past, Jett is determined to protect her. She accepts his help unwillingly because she needs him but she wants to play his game on her own terms. And she has no intention to forgive or let him back into her bed.
When the man she is supposed to hate is the one she should trust, will he conquer her…or lose her forever?
A woman who can’t forgive.
A man who has made mistakes.
Two lives that are about to cross again and more secrets laid bare.
First let me start by saying that if you have not read the first book in this trilogy, Surrender Your Love, which might I add has the HOTTEST cover ever, then stop now and do not bother with this book because you will have absolutely no clue what the hell is going on! Also if you’re one of those people (like me) that doesn’t like starting a mystery type series before all of the books are available put this one back on your TBR pile because book 3 isn’t out yet.
Ok, now that I have that out of the way let’s talk about the book. You have a wicked hot, crazy rich, a little mysterious, protective guy named Jett (um, yes please!) that you could tell the author wanted to do a lot with and it almost worked but he lacked just a bit of depth for me. Now don’t get me wrong, I liked him but there was just pieces that did not click for me. Reed was trying to portray him as a rich boy gone bad with a bit of a fast and furious type, slightly dangerous past but it never really comes full circle. He hints at it and you will see it come through in certain scenes but frankly all the hush hush BS started to bug me. I get that she was trying to give him an air of mystery but I was ready for him to divulge all of his secrets so we could get on with the story and quit being so vague. Then there is Brooke who kind of just was. There was nothing about her that pulled me in or pushed me away, she was just a regular woman who was too nice and accommodating to her bitchy best friend (who frankly made me feel incredibly stabby) that got wrapped up in the middle of some crazy cover up concerning her inheritance. (I’ll circle back to that) Sylvie is the best friend that she takes with her to Italy to meet her long lost uncle, one of those twice removed by marriage type uncles, and to ultimately acquaint herself with her inheritance which is a sprawling estate that holds more secrets than Victoria herself but that you never are quite sure of. The only thing I can say about Sylvie is that if I was Brooke I would’ve made it face book official a long time ago and unfriended Sylvie’s slutburger self.
Ok so those are the players for the most part, now add in an estate in Italy that used to be the meeting place for some secret kinky club that somehow involved Jett‘s father, a possible unsolved murder at said estate over a gay lover, some hot sex, a scary looking computer hacker guy from Jett’s secret bad boy past, hidden rooms behind newly erected walls, bad guys trying to kill them by any means necessary oh and some more HOT sex and you have yourself a story, I think! I know it sounds like I didn’t like this book but I did, really, I just didn’t love it and that’s mostly because I felt like there were too many holes
and not enough info about the who, what and why’s. That being said I cannot wait for book three because ALL of the answers have to be there RIGHT?!
I give Conquer Your Love by J.C. Reed 3.5 stars!
