Sometimes you want someone so much…
Sometimes you need someone so much…
Lust can become love.
And love can turn into a deadly obsession.
Skye Sullivan knows that someone is watching her. Not just watching—stalking her. Months ago, Skye was involved in a dangerous car accident. The accident ended her dancing career and sent her fleeing back to Chicago. Skye is convinced that her stalker caused the crash, and she fears that he won’t stop pursuing her, not until she’s dead.
When someone breaks into her apartment in Chicago, Skye turns to the one man she believes can protect her—Trace Weston. Once, Trace was her lover. Two lost souls, they’d come together in a firestorm of need and desire. But then Trace had pushed her away. He’d joined the military, vanishing from her life. She’d put all of her emotion into dancing, and she’d tried to forget him.
Now Trace is one of the most successful men in the United States. Rich, driven, and carrying dark secrets, he agrees to help Skye. He’ll protect her from the danger that lurks in the darkness, but Trace wants more than to just be a guard for Skye.
He wants her. And he’ll take her. The years have changed him, hardened him. He’s not just a poor kid from the streets any longer. Now, he can have anything—or anyone—that he wants. And the one woman he has always wanted has just come back into his life. He won’t let her go again.
But with the threats mounting against Skye, she suspects that her stalker may be intimately close. He’s a man who knows her too well. As his attacks grow ever more dangerous, she realizes that if she trusts the wrong man, she could be making a fatal mistake.
Lust. Love. Obsession.
Just how far would you go in order to possess the one person you want the most?
Whenever I find myself in a “book bad mood” I turn to the one author I know I will enjoy. Cynthia Eden. I happened to have this book on my TBR/Review list this weekend and I knew it was time to read it. After a string of ho-hum books I needed something that would engross me. Mine To Take was that book.
I devoured this book in one sitting…sure it is a novella and so it’s shorter, but I usually still find that I have to put something down for a bit and come back in a few hours. Not this one. Skye and Trace are interesting, sexy and just oh so good together!
When Trace let Skye go so many years before he did it for her own good. Over the years he’s kept tabs on her and after an accident stripped her of a promising dancing career she’s come back to Chicago to try and open her own dance studio. But the problems that plagued her in New York have followed her back to Chicago and she has no choice but to turn to Trace for protection.
Trace is what someone would call an alpha-hole. He skirts the line between being sexy and overbearing but given the situation I think he was totally spot on with his overly protective attitude. Especially since everyone was a suspect. I liked how Eden even made him a suspect as Skye’s stalker by allowing things he had been trying to hide come to light.
As a heroine I thoroughly enjoyed Skye. She’s determined, yet cautious and I liked her tenacity to carry on with her life even if she was scared while doing so. She falls into Trace’s bed quickly enough but given their history I guess it was bound to happen fast anyway. Trace thinks of her as fragile but she’s shown time and again how strong her will really is. Not only with the debilitating accident but with the continuing horror that shadows her every move. I like the light to dark personality story trope and Eden delivered it well with Trace and Skye.
I love stories that are both sexy and pulse pounding and Mine To Take gave me both. Her narrative voice is always able to drag me in!
I give Mine To Take by Cynthia Eden 4.50 stars!
