Remington Tate has a bad-boy rep in and out of the ring, a granite-hard body, and a raw, animal power that sends his female fans into a frenzy. But from the moment their eyes lock, the only woman he wants is Brooke Dumas. His desire is pure, all-consuming, and REAL.
Hired to keep his perfect body working like a machine, Brooke finally has the lucrative sports therapy job she’s been dreaming of. But as she tours the dangerous underground fighting circuit with Remy and his team, Brooke’s own body becomes alive with the most primal of hungers. If what happens between Brooke and Remy is ever as light as a flirtation, it quickly becomes an erotic obsession for them both, and promises so much more.
But their white-hot lust has a dark side—and when Remy’s deepest secret comes to light and Brooke’s familial duties demand action, will the pair be able to hang on, or will everything that once seemed so real suddenly fade away like an illusion?
I don’t even know how to start this review. The book….was amazeballs. I was sucked into the story line almost immediately. Putting it down to sleep and eat became a huge issue for me. I wanted to climb into the book and have Remy’s babies. It consumed me.
Remy, Riptide, Tate is such a flawed character and yet he lives his life to the fullest he can. He fights in the underground circuit, he parties hard and he never takes no for an answer. He’s amazingly strong and he uses that to his advantage whenever possible. Though he could take down pretty much anyone he wants, emotion takes him down every time. Never knowing how to voice himself he stays quiet and depends on those few he trusts to get done what needs done. Until one night when he sees a woman who sees him back. He becomes enthralled with the beauty he sees in the crowd and immediately knows she needs to be his.
Brooke is caught in Remy’s sights and figures she’ll finally allow herself the freedom of a one night stand, and who better to do it with than the fine piece of male beefcake that is Remington Tate. She’s shocked when instead he offers her a job in his small crew….but not shocked enough to say no. Remy expresses himself to her through songs on his Ipod. Basically baring his soul and pleading with her to understand. For someone to finally get him and love him anyway. I loved that Evans includes the playlist for her readers. It really sets the mood and makes the movie in my head that more vivid to listen to the music the characters are expressing themselves with.
The path they take together is warped, kinda bleak and yet filled with so much hope. Brooke becomes Remy’s beacon when he goes to the dark…his lifeline back home. Brooke doesn’t understand his moods for much of the book, chalking it up to arrogance and yet shes stands solidly by his side. Through all the tempers, the erratic behavior, the available hookers…she stays strong. Her character goes through the gauntlet of emotions and she reacts with grace, class and love.
Real was so erotically sexy. It revved me up more than any book I’ve read recently. Evans lays on the foreplay so thick that by the time Remy finally allows Brooke inside his inner walls I was near my breaking point. The buildup was sheer perfection. PERFECTION.
I now join everyone else who is eagerly anticipating book two due out in November…I. WANT. IT. NOW!!! Real is a jaw dropping, gut wrenching, wildly descriptive roller coaster of awesomeness that I want to ride again and again!
Oh, and as a sidenote….that cover? HOLY HELL *panties drop*
I give Real by Katy Evans 5 stars!
