A group of former Navy SEALS, the Alpha Pack is a top secret team of wolf shifters with Psy powers combating the greatest dangers in the world. And when the battle gets personal, their wild side is unleashed…. Ryon Hunter sees dead people—spirits that beg him for help in ways he can’t understand. He’d do anything to end the torment, until a beautiful spirit appears to him with a plea he can’t ignore: Help me…I’m alive. The woman is wildlife biologist Daria Bradford, mortally wounded after encountering a white wolf, calling to Ryon through a rare Psy gift.

When Ryon locates Daria in the Shoshone National Park, it is almost too late, but nursing her back to health at the Alpha Pack compound brings a new complication—Daria is his destined mate, and Ryon is afraid of what will happen when she discovers what he is, and what he had to do to save her life. But the biggest threat of all is still loose in the forest, leaving a merciless trail of death behind it. The Alpha Pack goes on the hunt for the mysterious white wolf, determined to stop the murderous rogue… only to find that the most lethal creature of all is the one they can’t see coming…

A world with shifters, yes! This is another great addition to the Alpha Pack series as we enjoy the story of Ryon and his mate, Daria; they are tracking a beast that has been created to cause havoc and death and trying to come to grips with the fact they are mated.

Ryon Hunter is the Pack’s channeler and telepath, he can push his thoughts to communicate with others and communicate with the dead, an unwanted ability, as the ghosts piss off his wolf.

Daria Bradford is hiking in the Shoshone National Forest, studying wolves (not the shifter kind), her father taught her everything she knows and now he lives vicariously through her since his arthritis has taken its toll. She has a gift that was bestowed upon her by a Native American ancestor; she is able to travel through astral projections and has visions. She “meets” Ryon while watching him get hurt as he fights creatures in an ally, she does not know who he is but knows there is a connection.

Daria is spooked while hiking, hearing a horrible scream in the air, as she investigates she finds a gruesome death and before she can do anything about it, a white wolf pushes her off the trail. She is gravely injured and reaches out using the connection between her and a man she does not know but who is her destined mate. Ryon takes Daria to the Pack’s compound where she learns of a whole new world that she had no idea existed. The Pack finds out the identity of the beast and goes after the creator, a man that is a surprise to all, as danger surrounds Ryon and Daria, will they die before they are able to love?

I love shifter books and when you throw in Navy SEALS and the camaraderie between the team it is a win! I like both Ryon and Daria, they fit together well, almost too well as they accepted the mate attraction without hesitation, I understand Ryon accepting it but I expected more resistance from Daria, who has never known shifters existed let alone that she is mated for life. Daria is a smart and intelligent woman and I enjoy that she is matched well with Ryon; he is just yummy with the right amount of alphaness, he gets cranky about her doing dangerous things but knows she can help.

The action is intense as the team investigates the deaths and the creation of the beast in a lab that was featured in a previous book. I like the feel of the team working together as they fight evil, and although the overall story arc will continue, the main story featured in this book was satisfyingly completed. The pace of the story from the beginning is fast and does not let up until the end, which keeps you turning the page. I enjoyed seeing the men and women of the Pack we have met before and look forward to the stories of those that are not yet mated, especially Nick and Micah, you know there are interesting histories there. All in all a great paranormal romance with shifters – whee!

I give Hunter’s Heart by J.D. Tyler 4.0 stars!
