LIFELINE: an elite search-and-rescue squad based out of Banff, Alberta. Specializing in high-risk rescue missions, this team goes wherever the job takes them… Alisha Bailey left a life of privilege for the dangerous but thrilling world of search and rescue. Denying the lure of attraction to her teammate is another sacrifice she’s made to prove to everyone—including her family— that she’s more than a pretty face or a business commodity.

Since their training days, Devon Leblanc has used the competitive fire between them to hide his fascination with the petite beauty. When a natural disaster forces their rivalry aside, heated passion finally flares between them. Sexual pleasure slowly gives way to a new appreciation for each other’s skills—on the field and in the bedroom. But when unexplained accidents begin happening to the Lifeline team, their newfound unity may be their only hope for survival…

This book is so good, it is the second in this series about a search and rescue team and it just gets better with each story. I love the characters here and this book has much more suspense then the first one, which makes the pace faster and more intense.

Alisha Bailey has been a member of Lifeline for over two years, she feels so close to the team and loves her job. She hates when her father belittles her career path as he expects her to come home after her experiment, to work for the family business. She comes from wealth, but does not have much to do with her family anymore.

Devon and Alisha have been teammates from the beginning and have danced around their attraction the whole time. On a rescue mission, she panics and Devon is worried, she talks him into keeping her secret if she can prove it was a fluke and nothing to worry about. As they spend more time together, they finally act on their attraction.

Vincent Monreal is a family friend of Alisha’s who shows up in Banff, he claims he is worried about her father and the business. He wants her to marry him, sign over her shares so he can take over the business. She says no in many different ways, however he seems a bit crazy, stalkerish and threatens her several times.

Devon, Alisha and the team deal with several rescues and an ongoing threat, as two members are poisoned and another has a life threatening fall that is caused by faulty equipment, they must find out who is causing havoc as the danger gets more intense.

What a great addition to this series, I enjoyed this one more than the first as High Risk had more set up and less suspense. High Passion is more about how the team is working together to solve a threat, which works well. Alisha is great as the heroine, she is strong, intelligent and likes that everyone treats her as an equal, she has earned her way on the team just like everyone else. I like how Devon and her have been watching each other for years, never acting on their attraction. There is something about the anticipation of a relationship that works here. The chemistry is amazing as they finally give in and enjoy each other, not to mention that they were in an area where they could have been seen, I love the chance they took, plus it was hot. Devon is very honest about the way he sees the relationship, and I like that.

The plot is engrossing as we not only try to find out about the threats to the team but we also go on several rescues to show that life is unpredictable and dangerous. I like how well the team works together, a precise machine. The pace is fast and I read it in one sitting as I did not want to wait to find out what happens. I love the camaraderie the team has, no drama, and I was amazed at how easily they accepted Devon and Alisha being a couple, not much razzing or even concern, just acceptance, nice. The only problem I had was that I was not sure what the point of the panic attack was, maybe to finally throw the two together as they worked through it, but they only did one “test” and I was not convinced that she should be OK now. Other than that, I really love this book and look forward to more, Erin is next as the helicopter pilot works through a past love. I recommend this to all those that love romantic suspense with hot chemistry between the couple and a great team to rely on.

I give High Passion by Vivian Arend 4.25 stars!
