Dr. Erin Taylor would rather be strapped to a gurney in her ER than prowling Jacksonville’s newest nightclub in a tight dress and high heels. Forced to do that very thing after losing a bet to a friend, she’s surprised by the sparks flying between her and sexy police detective Sean Rembert.
Sean is supposed to be scoping the bar for leads that might help him catch a serial killer, not letting his neglected libido lead him astray. But the minute he sees the gorgeous blonde headed his direction, all thoughts of work go out the window. Until he discovers Erin is a possible target.
Their connection is red-hot and undeniable, but Erin is in serious danger and Sean will do anything in his power to protect her. Passion explodes between them, then a secret destroys it. Can they overcome the hurt and resentment to find their way back to each other before the killer closes in?
Awhile back I read a short story (novelette) by Lyn and I knew then that I enjoyed her writing style. When this one landed in front of me I couldn’t wait to get to it because of that very fact. Heart Trouble is longer, though still not full length (we’ll get there Jenny) but all 150ish pages are filled with hotness, action and smoldering sex scenes!
You kinda have to understand going into this one that the romance is going to happen quickly. Like within the first 3 hours of meeting, Sean and Erin are making the beast with two backs in her apartment. They fall into lust quickly and you have to just go with it. Unrealistic? Sure but it’s a romance novel, duh. And it’s so well done that I didn’t even think about it except in passing. I mean, let’s be honest here…hot cop in my apartment, shirtless, protecting me? This girl is gonna jump his bones for sure. So why not Erin? She’s a smart woman who has a demanding career. I enjoyed the fact that she wasn’t weak, that she had achieved so much by the time she met Sean.
I enjoyed how at first they both were thinking it was a one night stand, and how Sean convinced himself it was for “her protection” that he stay the night. Ahhh what we all tell ourselves to justify a hot sex filled night. But more then that Jenny Lyn gives them an incredible back story that never left me wanting. The characters are well thought out and even the supporting characters were entertaining. I think there may have even been a set up for a second book in there. Or maybe that’s just my wishful thinking. But I really hope I get another book soon Jenny…give me what I want…please?
I will say Lyn needs to vary her vocabulary a bit. She tends to overuse the word pussy. It’s in there a lot folks. But overall the sex scenes were hot. There was even a bit of male submission in there which totally revved my lady bits to overdrive. The ending was action filled although it didn’t quite meet the expectations I had after the horror the other women from the rapist had faced. I thought Erin got off a bit too lightly and that the threat could have been more aggressive. It was a bit too scripted. A bit too predictable. But it was tension filled and for that, I have to say I highly enjoyed it and my heart was all flutter when Sean finally arrives on the scene.
I see a lot of promise to Jenny Lyn’s writing. Each book seems to delve a bit deeper and get better. I look forward to more from her and can recommend this one as an exciting read!
I give Heart Trouble by Jenny Lyn 4 stars!
