English professor Dr. Georgeanne Hayes has a problem. Her star pupil, an Army sergeant who works in a Top Secret government program, is missing—and someone tried to push her in front of a train last night.
Sam “Knight Rider” McKnight is used to looking out for Georgie. When they were kids, she was just his best friend’s baby sister. But Georgie’s not a baby anymore and Sam is getting some very male—and very dirty—thoughts about the girl he knows he can never have.
When someone threatens Georgie’s life again, Sam will do anything necessary to keep her safe. Even if it means spending the next few days locked up in a remote house on Maryland’s Eastern Shore with her.
Sam might be used to denying himself what he wants, but he’s about to find out that being cooped up with Georgie will push him to the limit. And maybe beyond.
After finishing book one, Hot Pursuit, and mostly enjoying it, I snatched this one up at the first chance I had. Hot Mess is a novella that takes place after Hot Pursuit ends but follows a newly appointed member of the team, Sam. Sam had a hard upbringing and as a result spent a lot of his childhood at his best friends house who happened to come from a well off, well connected family. His friends little sister Georgie was ever present and always hanging on his every word. When they were young he wrote her off as a pesky kid, but one he cared deeply for. As a teenager he kept his hormones in check and left for a military again after one dastardly make out session that almost went too far.
When Sam shows up at her house, Georgie isn’t sure what to think. After so many years she’s unprepared for the emotions he immediately awakens in her. She’s coming off a divorce and now she may be in harms way because of her association with a student in her adult college classes.
Upon learning of the threat to Georgie, Sam whisks her away to a H.O.T safe house all the while trying desperately to ignore the growing desire to succumb to his need for her. I liked her Sam was the more insecure of the two of them. Believing himself to be below Georgie even in the face of her obvious affront to all things high class.
Hot Mess is a fast paced read that had me firmly planted in my chair from beginning to end. I thought it was incredibly well done and I enjoyed the depth of emotion the author managed into such a short read. The only short coming was the climax. Harris builds up what will be expected of Georgie in order to draw out the terrorists and then everything sort of fizzles. So in essence there was no climax. Which kinda bummed me out. Georigie is a strong female lead and to not let her shine was a let down. I expected more on the front.
I will definitely be back to this series! Harris seems to have a good grasp on where she wants to take this world and I am looking forward to the ride! Smoldering sexy and wrought with emotion, Hot Mess is a winner for me!
I give Hot Mess by Lynn Raye Harris 4.50 stars!
