Jase Kayrs was the fun brother. The warm, charming, easy-going brother of the vampire leaders. Until he was taken and tortured by demons with their evil mind tricks for nearly five years. Upon his return, he’s dark, violent, and not the man they all thought they knew. Not the man he once was. He’s haunted that the only reason the demons would have let him live was to use him as a weapon against his family—but he can’t figure out when or how he’ll explode. Plus, once again the demons are after Jase with a vengeance…or rather, a female demon he rejected is out to destroy him.
Then the king asks Jase for a favor…a big one. To mate with one of their allies in order to save her. She’s everything that’s good and light in the world…while he’s at home with darkness. Yet he agrees…knowing mating may be the only chance to save them both.
Oh Rebecca Zanetti…how I love thee. Let me count the ways…..
1. You alpha heroes make me squirm in my seat like a hooker in church.
2. Your feisty heroines make me laugh with their hard headed tenaciousness…and not necessarily to their men but perhaps to their old life.
3. Your action scenes are gripping, hard hitting and thorough.
4. Your sex scenes melt my panties.
5. Your family unit building is superb.
Be my best friend… I really like your work.
I could keep going but it would get embarrassing, fast……
Seriously woman, you’re my idol. I love everything about this series and this book did not disappoint! Jase Kayrs is a ticking time bomb of ruthless revenge waiting to happen. Rightfully so, he wants to kill the demons, but mainly the few that facilitated his POW status for so many, very long, years. He finally sees his chance in mating with the extremely powerful witch, Brenna, so that he can take on any abilities she may receive once she harnesses all the power of the upcoming solstice. While Brenna agrees to his mating for a completely different reason she soon finds herself developing feelings for the broken male with so much pain. Always one to try and fix things, Brenna attempts to help him through his memories but sometimes the only person that can get you over something is yourself.
Jase…Jase…Jase….good lord man….he was alpha to the alphaness. His torment and rage kept him for completely connecting to Brenna on an intellectual level while his body knew right away it had found it’s match in the feisty female. Her physical limitations were well made up for in her attitude and ability to break through little by little to Jase. She may have been weakened but she could pack a punch when it counted and she was resourceful about it. I highly enjoy women who fight for what they want and don’t let their limitations slow them down in the least. Smart, strong women are great matches in every aspect for alpha males and Zanetti always seems to get that spot on. Brenna and Jase together were like two halves of a whole. Each needing the other while still being able to take care of themselves.
My favorite thing about these books is the idea of this family unit. This group of immortal brothers who have one by one fallen for these females and included them in their family. The outpouring of love….the fierce protectiveness…the burning need for each other. It’s been years since the first book has taken place and yet, if anything, these brothers are closer because of their love for their mates and for each other. The family is forever enfolding more members both in blood and in war. When Jase was taken and held for so long each brother processed their anger differently. Each trying desperately to find him. Now that he’s returned they feel like they’re still looking for him. Like who came back ins’t really their brother, but merely a broken piece of him. Watching them all learn to change (Jase included) and finally voice their frustrations aloud was like slowly letting the air out of a balloon. Shadowed is a dark, tension filled book about moving on and learning to deal with your past and not letting it rule you.
I’m sad because with each passing book I know we’re getting closer to the end. the fight to end all fights with Janie caught in the middle. The prophetic seer will have to face the darkest evil of all and it’s been set in stone for centuries. i can only hope her childhood friend Zane can keep most of the darkness at bay for her.
Most series cool off after so many books but Zanetti always keep me coming back and ferociously turning pages. Her superb writing is awe inspiring. I love this series and I don’t see that ever changing.
The hard smack to her ass shocked the hell out of her. Her mouth dropped open. A couple of women passed, and one giggled to the other, “Somebody’s been reading Fifty Shades”
I give Shadowed by Rebecca Zanetti 4.50 stars!
