Lauren Cahill lives as quietly as she can, protecting her ability as a psychic healer. But danger brings Troy Arsenault into her life—along with scorching sex and intense emotions. Resisting him isn’t even a question, in or out of the bedroom. He protects her from the evil stalking her even as he teaches her what erotic sex is all about. When she’s kidnapped, his world is turned upside down and he employs all the resources of The Phoenix Agency to rescue her. He won’t rest until she’s back safely in his life—and in his bed for the rest of their lives.
Desiree Holt puts together a solid entry into her Phoenix Agency series. I haven’t read any of the previous books, but I felt that this one can easily be read as a stand-alone and I didn’t miss much by not knowing the back story.
Lauren Cahill is a self-employed web site designer by day, and a psychic healer in her spare time. Using the talents she inherited from her Cherokee grandmother, Lauren is able to heal people in ways modern medicine cannot. Refusing payment and shying away from publicity and notoriety, Lauren performs her miracles simply to help others, often at great cost to her own health. Along with the unwanted fame comes a stalker bringing danger to her life. It is because of these threats to her safety and well-being that Troy Arsenault comes into her world.
Troy is a member of the Phoenix Agency where Lauren’s good friend’s husband Mark works. When they discover the chaos surrounding Lauren due to her latest success story, they ask Troy to step in and monitor her safety. Neither Troy nor Lauren is prepared for the instantaneous connection they both feel. Lauren is reluctant to let this stranger into her world, especially with the combustible chemistry flowing between them. She hasn’t had the best of luck in the past with her relationships, mostly because of her talents. Troy has been flying solo for most of his adult life, enjoying women whenever and wherever he found them. All of that changes with one look into Lauren’s eyes.
I liked the idea behind this book. Not only is Lauren forced to deal with reporters harassing her for a story, but also the man stalking her because he is seriously psychotic and believes she is a threat not only to him but to the world in general. On top of that is another element of danger which eventually leads to Lauren being kidnapped because of her healing talents. The one man perfect for the job of protecting her, and ultimately finding her, is Troy Arsenault. Once he makes Lauren his, he will utilize all of his talents and the Phoenix Agency’s vast resources to find her and keep her safe.
The chemistry between Lauren and Troy sizzles and the love scenes were descriptive enough to be very sexy without being crude. I almost didn’t feel like I was reading an Ellora’s Cave book, because there was actually a very decent story to go along with the eroticism. If you’re looking for a steamy read with solid lead characters and a well developed plot, I recommend this addition to Holt’s series.
I give Feel the Heat by Desiree Holt 4 stars!
