More Than Just a Romance Novel
By Sylvia Ryan
Shortly after my tenth wedding anniversary, I ran across a very good ménage book, Colter’s Woman. It’s still one of my favorites, by the way. Little did I know that when I cracked open that first book, I had cracked open the door to more than I would have ever dreamed.
For me, the change started slowly. After reading a few Lora Leigh books, I bought a new toy at my friendly neighborhood adult store. Despite my furious embarrassment, I brought it out for my husband to use on me as he saw fit. It was good. He was happy. I was happy.
After that, I was hooked. I started reading every erotic book I could get my hands on. And with every happily ever after, my sex drive grew to massive proportions. I couldn’t contain my enthusiasm in the bedroom, dragging my poor husband back to such an impressive quantity of sexual encounters that he was seriously competing with the numbers of his bygone days, when he was a wild and free young man.
It didn’t take long before he came home with an adult store bag of his own. Maybe because he needed some serious battery powered help to keep up with me, but I’d like to think otherwise. We were on a roll, and our marriage had never been so good, much to the horrified distress of my child (apparently we make too much noise). Since then I wondered if the romance/erotica genres have saved any other dull, been-there-done-that marriages other than my own. And that thought led to my latest novella, Friday Afternoon.
The seemingly insignificant action of me picking up a book, a really good book, truly changed who we were as a couple. We don’t just love each other; we are passionately in love with each other.
I would love to be able to personally thank the authors of every one of the books I’ve read since the very first. They are my heroes.
Now, I’m an author in my own right, and my wish is for just one thing. Maybe mine can be one of the happily ever after books that some woman scarfs down like a drug. Maybe Friday Afternoon , will encourages someone to try just one thing she would never have considered before. Maybe I can be a small part of helping someone else be passionately in love after more years, kids, responsibilities, ups and downs than they can count.
Thank you Nikki for opening up your blog to me.

Before kids and the responsibility of life, Levi and I shared a spontaneous, erotic, and deliciously deviant marriage. But the years transformed what we had into something comfortable and worn. It hurts me to think his desire for me has cooled. I miss that look of his. Slightly evil and totally hot, like he wanted to devour me. Haven’t seen it in ages.
When I first married Mia, she submitted to every one of my erotic needs. Then came the children. With little complaint, I abandoned my pursuit of kink, content to be married to a beautiful, intelligent woman who’s a great mother to our twins. Out of the blue, Mia confesses she misses the intimacy in our marriage, misses the sex. After this enticing revelation, my plan to reconnect with her unfolds.
In our secret, kinky, Friday afternoon meetings I’m going to give her everything she wants and take everything I need. Will this be the answer to fixing our marriage?
