“Oh yeah.” He curled down and rubbed his nose against her forehead before he pulled back. “Where your parents want you to be a happy well-adjusted daughter who behaves accordingly, I’d want you to be a happy well-adjusted woman who doesn’t behave according to anyone but herself.”
It’s not a matter of what could go wrong when a kindergarten teacher who’s tired of living vicariously through her porn collection is virtually stranded for the weekend with Mr. Sex-on-a-stick. It’s more a question of what could go right.
Sidney Capp is tired of denying her natural desires to be the quintessential good girl her parents expect her to be. So when the holidays arrive, and she’s free of her folks breathing down her neck for the weekend? She’s drunk with power. Probably why when the opportunity to be a little bad presents itself, she doesn’t hesitate, but dives all over him.
Riker Mitchell thinks being forced into some much needed R&R for a few days is going to kill him until he inadvertently discovers his sexy but shy neighbor is secretly into watching porn on the weekends. Apparently, he isn’t the only one with erotic ideas on the brain. Little does he know, the hottie in two B is determined to turn her sizzling dreams into a sensual reality. On a regular day, with a regular girl, he would have been the first to sign up, but with this little innocent? No matter how tempting it might be, he’s not going to take advantage of her…unless she can persuade him to do the wrong thing.
For my first Riley Murphy book I think I picked well because I found A Perfect Holiday to be a cute, one sitting read!
Sidney is tired of being a good girl, so when she finds herself alone in her apartment complex with the hottie upstairs, she decides it’s time to be bad. Very bad. The porns she’s been watching give the naive woman all kinds of scenarios she’d like to play out and Riker is just the man to play with. The last thing she’s looking for is a substantial relationship. Her demanding parents won’t allow it. She can only give him the weekend but Riker is quickly falling in love with the quirky woman and letting her go is not an option when his once broken heart heals just for her.
A Perfect Holiday was a light read with fun characters that were well wrote for such a short book. Riker and Sidney worked perfectly together and I found their interactions to be filled with great conversation that had me chuckling often. Sidney is such an unconventional heroine. She’s a porn watching, unfiltered, completely green in the ways of love, woman. She’s eager to try everything she’s seen on her skin flicks and has no problems voicing what she’d like to try with Riker. As much as I liked that, her immaturity was very grating and really took away from her exploration with Riker. She’s totally controlled by her parents…what they want, how they want, when they want. She’s an adult woman living on her own and I hated that she let her parents dictate her happiness so much. Perhaps it’s my fiery nature but I would have told my parents LONG AGO to take a hike. But that’s just me. For a woman who comes off as so self assured I thought her issues with her parents were a bit flimsy. I’ve also never seen an apartment complex be completely empty no matter what day or weekend it is so that aspect was also a bit unbelievable.
Riker finds himself quickly over his head with the feisty young teacher who lives below him. He’s been betrayed before by a woman who didn’t find him “good enough” and Sidney seems to be a lot like her. He’s good enough to take to bed but not good enough to have a relationship with. She’s told them they can only have the weekend but he’s eager to try for more even as she starts pulling away. Sidney knows him only as the apartment complex Casanova and she can’t figure out why he wants more from her than with the parade of women she’s seen leaving his upstairs living space. I enjoyed his character immensely and found him to be strikingly hot. He’s got this rugged, work with his hands feel that I immediately bought into. The sex scenes were really well done, even as they tried various porn activities that were a bit unconventional in a contemporary romance.
I will definitely pick up more from Riley Murphy in the future. I enjoyed her voice and found her writing to be solid with well done world building and even better character interactions.
I give A Perfect Holiday by Riley Murphy 3.50 stars!
