He makes the rules . . .
Mafiya enforcer Aleksandr “The Siberian” Sevastyan’s loyalty to his boss is unwavering, until he meets the boss’s long-lost daughter, a curvy, tantalizing redhead who haunts his mind and heats his blood like no other. Ordered to protect her, Sevastyan will do anything to possess her as well—on his own wicked terms.

Rules are made to be broken . . .
PhD student Natalie Porter had barely recovered from her first sight of the breathtakingly gorgeous Sevastyan before the professional hit man whisks her away to Russia, thrusting her into a world of extreme wealth and wanton pleasures. With every day she spends under his protection, she falls deeper under his masterful spell.

Are you ready to play?
Yet all is not as it seems. To remove Natalie from an enemy’s reach, Sevastyan spirits her into hiding. From an opulent palace in Russia to the decadent playgrounds of the mega-wealthy in Paris, the two lovers will discover that even their darkest—and most forbidden—fantasies can come true…

Wow. This is definitely something new from Kresley Cole huh? The Professional features a hot, brooding Russian protector sent to keep the long lost daughter to a Russian mafia king safe as he brings her to meet the father she’s searched for. Natalie is our virgin heroine. She’s spunky, driven and has spent a good chunk of the last few years focused on finishing her degree while trying to make ends meet. Sex has always been irrelevant to her because she’s never been able to understand the drive for it and has never found a man willing to give her what she needs. Control. Submission. Release.

When a gorgeous Russian shows up proclaiming her a mafia princess and basically kidnapping her to get her on a plane to Russia she isn’t sure what to think but her body sure has a mind of its own where Sevastyan is concerned. Just being near him sets her teeth on edge and leaves her panting in breathlessness. He runs hot and cold on her constantly and leaves her confused after several extremely racey encounters in her apartment and on the plane yet she continues to crave what only he has been able to give her. Sexual understanding.

Once she’s schlepped away to Russia and meets her father Natalie realizes just how much money is now at her disposal and yet the only thing she wants is a relationship with her father and another kinky minute or two with Sevastyan.  And boy does Kresley deliver on the sexy times. And yet no actual sex. It was odd. It was hot. I want more before I make my final decision on these.

There is a threat of danger that seems imminent to Natalie though no one seems to be willing to fill her in. The shadowy threat keeps Sevastyan on his toes but he doesn’t do much to alleviate Natalie’s worries. Her skeezy cousin seems willing and able to keep her company but Sevastyan stays vigilant in his role of protector. He’s a hard character to know and since we weren’t given much on him in this one the jury is still out. He’s a fighter, he’s determined  and yea…he’s unbearably sexy but other then his proclivity to sexual dominance readers don’t know much else.

Yet here I am willing to plunk down money in order to finish what I started. I liked this book (or this PART of a book) but it ended abruptly and left me in that weird space between being ticked that it cut off like a season finale tv cliffhanger and wanting more…NOW. I highly dislike when publishers split what could be an average sized book into parts. It annoys me both because I end up with frustrating cliffhangers and it feels like a way for publishers to squeeze a bit more money out of readers. For separate character novellas it’s fine…for average sized book trilogies it’s fine…but this was so short. Merely a taste. Over before I blinked. Now I, along with readers everywhere, wait.

I give The Professional by Kresley Cole 3.75 stars!
