Dangerous-Love-Blog-Tour[8]

Oh my gosh you guys, I’m so excited to welcome my two guests today! Rebecca and I go way back and I’ve always been a huge fan of hers…no seriously you guys…it’s embarrassing. Really. I’m a huge fangirl. We also have Debra Kayn here today, who has wrote her own awesome romantic suspense series that you all need to check out! I recently got to ask them some questions..and I managed to do it without screaming about how excited I was to have them here. So just pretend I’m not over here doing this:

Nikki: When writing romantic suspense how do you do your research? Do you talk with police officers? Military? Research?

Rebecca:  Howdy! These questions were so much fun to answer! Thanks for inviting us today—I always like visiting this wonderful blog.

Nikki: *unintelligible fangirl squeal*

Rebecca: I talk to anybody who will talk to me in doing research. For the Sin Brother’s series, I was coincidentally having a couple of surgeries, and boy, did I question those doctors. They were so helpful in coming up with plausible ways the heroes could have kill chips inserted near their spines. They all became rather accustomed to my odd questions out of the blue, and I just hope I didn’t say anything too weird during the surgeries.

Debra: Absolutely. That’s the benefit of living in a small town, where law enforcement officials welcome questions and get as excited over them as I do their answers. I also get the benefit of writing fiction and heroes that skirt the law, so there’s always wiggle room.

Nikki: Do your heroes have any similarities?

Rebecca: My heroes are Alpha males. Tough, strong, oddly vulnerable in a way sometimes only the heroine can see. I like tough guys who’ll go to the mat for you, and who’ll protect you no matter what. My heroes do that, whether they’re vampires, cowboys, or super soldiers.

Debra: I think when you write what you love and know, heroes can take on a lot of similarities. I know my editor is always telling me to tone my heroes down and let them speak in complete sentences. But, that’s what the men I know talk like, and it’s easy make the heroes come across as dominating and tough, and I have to make sure the heroine (and readers) see him as sexy and adorable. Because those real men are sexy and adorable!

Nikki: What was the first romance book you can remember reading?

Rebecca: I snuck into my mom’s bag of books and read one of Nora Robert’s MacGregor stories. Then I read them all, so I’m not quite sure which one I read first. But I loved them. I loved the idea of romance, sizzle, and happily ever after.

Debra: Oh wow. I remember reading my mom’s True Love magazines at a really young age, then going to her Harlequins. But it wasn’t until I was in high school that I started reading Jude Deveraux’s books and realized it was “romance” I loved to read the most. She’s the queen, and I love her books even today.

Nikki: Do you still have fangirl moments with other romance authors?

Rebecca: Definitely! At RWA a few years ago, I saw Jennifer Apodaca (Jennifer Lyon) sitting at the coffee shop reading some notes. I walked by three times, because I didn’t want to bug her, but I really wanted to talk to her. Finally, I introduced myself and told her how much I loved the Samantha Shaw mysteries and how much I hoped she’d write another one soon. She was so nice! She invited me to sit and we chatted for a while. Then later she went up to her room and downloaded one of my books, read it and posted on FB how much she liked it. I couldn’t believe how kind she was, or that she did such a thing. I’d just wanted to beg for another Samantha and Gabe story from her. Romance authors really are some of the kindest people out there.

Debra: Absolutely! Gina Gordon, an author, stood in line and got me an autographed Nora Roberts book. I fangirl both of them. I might’ve cried and screamed at the same time.

Nikki: Who is your celebrity crush?

Rebecca: Great question! Okay, here’s the real deal. I don’t have celebrity crushes. But I do get huge crushes on characters – the made up ones. If Dean Winchester (Supernatural) really existed in life, I’d be on the hunt for that Impala. I’m sure Jensen Ackles is a great guy, but it’s the character I’m fascinated with, and I’ve never mixed up a character with the person who plays him or her. I wouldn’t mind being protected by Seeley Booth, either. And I’d love to meet J.D. Robb’s Roarke. Well, and kidnap him.

Debra: I want to say Jason Statham or Josh Holloway, because they are both sexy for different reasons, but I have to stick with Mickey Rourke for my celebrity crush for when he starred in 91/2 weeks. I can’t explain it, but he was hot in that movie. A little stalkerish, but hot.

Nikki: Tell me in 3 or less sentences why readers should pick up your book…

Rebecca: Forgotten Sins is a sexy thriller featuring a wounded soldier holding tight to the one woman he can’t lose, even though he can’t remember her. Danger surrounds them, and he has to dig deep to trust his instincts and find safety for them both. There are twists upon the turns, and some truly sizzling, emotional moments that make for a great ride.
