When rich, handsome, and arrogant meets beautiful, brilliant, and ambitious, things are bound to get tangled
Drew Evans makes multimillion-dollar business deals and seduces New York’s most beautiful women with just a smile. So why has he been shuttered in his apartment for seven days, miserable and depressed? He’ll tell you he has the flu, but we all know that’s not really true.
When Katherine Brooks is hired as the new associate at Drew’s father’s investment banking firm, every aspect of the dashing playboy’s life is thrown into a tailspin. The professional competition she brings is unnerving, his attraction to her is distracting, his failure to entice her into his bed is exasperating.
How can one woman turn a smooth-talking player into a broken, desperate man? By making the one thing he never wanted in life the only thing he can’t live without.
Wow. What do I say about this book that probably hasn’t already been said? Tangled was hilarious. Like, rolling on the ground, can’t catch your breath, tears streaming down your face and mascara in your eyes, hilarious. Emma Chase is a friggin romance genius if you ask me. She takes your typical romance about an egotistical, chauvinistic rich guy and spins it, giving readers the story from his perspective instead and what it is…is romance GOLD! I admit, the writing style was a bit hard to get into. It’s unlike anything I’d read before. It was like Drew (our hero) was telling me a story instead of showing it to me. It was definitely odd but once I settled into the style I was a goner.
Katherine has just accepted a new job and wanting to make the right impression she turns down her new co-workers advances the night before she starts. Sure, he doesn’t know who she is, but starting out by sleeping with the bosses golden boy isn’t how she wants to get to the top. Besides she’s engaged…
Drew can’t believe the one woman who has ever turned him down has just walked into the conference room at his job. Now his father wants them to complete for a client? Hell no. Drew is intent to beat her and it doesn’t matter how low he needs to sink to do it. Except somewhere along the way Katherine is teaching Drew something about himself and what he really wants out of life. And it isn’t just about the next client or how much money he can make. It’s about the rest of his life…and who he wants in it.
These two together was like watching oil and water try to mix. Opposites attracting. The wolf and little red riding hood. Both trying to desperately be in control and yet each wanting the other with an intensity that they couldn’t deny. Katherine struggled with the feeling Drew evoked because she was so afraid of ruining a good thing with her fiance Billy, even though it was evident that he wasn’t the one for her. He was safe. Drew was not. Drew represented everything that Katherine felt she should hate and yet their attraction was undeniable.
Drew told it like it was. No sugar coating. He was rich and he got what he wanted and Katherine would not be the exception to that rule. He had to learn what it meant to crawl. To beg and apologize for his behavior and the feelings he hurt when he pushed her away. He was a total sleaze ball at times…but honestly, what drop dead gorgeous man isn’t? I loved that the book was from his point of view. It was unique in a sea of conforming romance novels. Drew’s personality change was just shy of a miracle and yet Katherine and him made it work.
Tangled was an awesome book from beginning to end. I will be eagerly chomping at the bit to get the next book from Emma Chase. She managed to turn a complete douchebag of the male species into someone endearing who I could root for. Emma Chase must be practicing witchcraft in order to do that to me. 🙂 I WANT MORE!
I give Tangled by Emma Chase 5 stars!
