Jared Westin knows his reputation and likes it. He gets the job done. No emotion. No baggage. That’s why his elite ops company, The Titan Group, is better than the best. They complete projects classified as mission impossible.

And then, in walks a woman as tough as she is sexy. His counterpart in every way, should he choose to admit it.

Ousted undercover ATF agent Lily Chase only answers to “Sugar.” Jared is the only man who can see past her leather-and-lipstick demeanor, and that revelation is terrifying. She was fired for helping Titan on a questionable arrest she should’ve ignored, then partnered with Jared’s rival on an assignment in Afghanistan.

Distance and danger do nothing to change her feelings. When she’s left on the side of a mountain to die, an unexpected ally comes forward, and might open her heart.

Saving Sugar isn’t a normal rescue operation. It pits Titan against its rival, Jared against his nemesis. Chasing Sugar’s heart isn’t a simple task, either. She fights him, fights them, always ready to run. When she becomes a pawn in a game of collateral damage, Jared must risk his life to save her—the woman whose bravado and surprising sweetness has given him the one thing he never had. Love.

Jared Westin is always in complete control. So in control his band of black ops soldiers think he’s unshakable. And that may have well been true, until he sets his sites on one very hot tempered ousted ATF agent who took the fall for his team. Now he’s got word Sugar is being held captive in the mountains of Afghanistan and he’ll do whatever it takes to get her back in one piece. He’ll figure out why she means so much to him later. Much later.

Even being held against her will is almost better then having to deal with her conflicting emotions when it comes to the prickly Jared Westin. Sugar hates being vulnerable and Jared is setting off all her tightly wrung emotions. She knows they need each other to solve the mystery of her double cross even if Jared won’t admit to it.  He may be an alpha type but Sugar bows to no man and Jared needs to learn she can hold her own. Even when she secretly wishes he’d hold her.

Cristin Harber is definitely becoming one of my go to authors when it comes to black ops romance. Her writing gives me both the action I crave along with the romance I want. She has this perfect combination that satisfies me on both fronts and that is something that is rarely done so well. I often find myself bored when dealing with military romance because it’s often very detailed and light on the actual romance. Not so with Cristin Harber. She perfectly blends the two aspects and leaves this reader extremely happy.

Jared is the perfect military black ops hero. He’s in charge and unapologetic for his need to protect Sugar, even if she’s adamant of her ability to take care of herself.  When his past comes into play he knows that the person they are dealing with will stop at nothing to exact his revenge and Sugar will be caught in the crosshairs. His interactions with his fellow soldiers felt crisp yet more like a family unit than coworkers. His complete trust in them works against him in a way but loyalty is something he demands of his men.

Poor Sugar never really stood a chance once she realized he was having the same reaction to her as she was to him. That realization was freeing for her in a way and thinking they could simply get each other out of their systems she decides to jump him and then kick him out. Yet she falls hard for him and much quicker than she anticipated. Especially when showed a side of him she’d never seen. Coupled with the addition of a scared young girl and Sugar’s rarely seen softer side makes a big appearance.

I loved how the title gave readers a clue as to how hard Jared was going to fall for Sugar. For someone who is always so rigidly in control, having to “chase” anyone, let alone a woman would be a stretch for him. Sugar gives him a run for his money and their back and forth banter and verbal foreplay was awesomely done. Sugar’s zingers were well timed and could make me chuckle  even as they exasperated Jared.

Westin’s Chase is chock full of action, intrigue, back stabbing and heart. It’s an incredible addition to the genre and one I whole-heartedly recommend readers check out. This is an amazing series overall. Harber is an author you need to experience!

I give Westin’s Chase by Cristin Harber 4 stars!
