Destiny Quinn lives for her job. She loves being an IT Recruiter, traveling nationwide. But all work and no play has left her feeling restless. It’s been a year since she’s gone out on a date — or slept with a man. Suddenly, Destiny can’t think about anything else. She’s not looking for a relationship, just a good time and a sexy diversion. One steamy night of mind-blowing pleasure, then maybe she can get back to business.
Christian LaCosta wants to prove to his family — and himself — that he is relationship material. Lately, it seems like everyone around him is in love. Maybe it’s time to give up the fast life and fast women, quit being the odd man out. Christian decides to take the plunge and join an online dating service. When he’s unwittingly hooked up with a luscious neighbor named Destiny, the coincidence is too much. Christian doesn’t believe in fate, but one look at Destiny, and he’s seeing a whole new future. Now he must convince this career-driven beauty that work isn’t everything. Take a chance on them, and she can have it all.
I always enjoy a Diane Escalera book and playing with Destiny is no exception! Her sweet, often one sitting reads are incredibly well done and leave me sighing with pleasure by the last page. Destiny is our heroine and she’s completely in charge or her life and capable, never wanting a relationship because her job is her first love. Though she is happy with her life she has moments where she wishes for more but is unwilling to change her life and take the risk involved with loving someone else. When she meets Christian through a dating service, who happens to live in the same apartment complex as her, she thinks they are the perfect match. He’s not a settling down type of guy, instead he seems to have quite the list of conquests to his name. Hooking up with him is a perfect way to pass some time before her job once again demands her attention.
Christian may have a long list of women in his past but meeting Destiny awakens a part of him he’s been witnessing in his happily coupled friends. He doubts himself in being able to date only one woman but with her he’s willing to try. Except Destiny doesn’t want to get involved in anything other than a fling and Christian has to prove to he that there is more to life than a job.
Playing With Destiny gives readers a sweet and spicy story filled to the brim with emotion. I enjoy women who are successful all on their own and Destiny is the perfect example of that. The road to finding out she can have both love and a career is something that rings clear with women everywhere and with Christian I was just spellbound. He’s a gorgeous, thoughtful man who gives it his all to try to catch the woman he’s been unknowingly waiting for forever.
The only thing I wished hadn’t been glossed over was when her ex re-entered the picture. I felt that since she was so skittish about men in general because of him, that this part of the book should have been played up a bit more. She had very good reasons for her feelings about relationships and I felt just a tiny bit let down that part wasn’t more climactic. However it was the only part I found any fault with. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and highly recommend this (along with anything else Escalera writes) to contemporary romance fans who enjoy something with a bit of spice!
I give Playing With Destiny by Diane Escalera 4 stars!
