Ryder Duncan keeps his secrets. With a twisted scientist starving him in a 10 X 12 cell, it’s not easy to conceal the abilities that set him apart from other vampires, or his plans for escape. But survival – and revenge – are worth waiting for. Until the so-called doctor tempts his appetites with something special: a woman, with a soft Southern accent and a scent like flowers. Sabine.
Sabine Acadia didn’t volunteer to be dinner. She was kidnapped and tossed into the cage of a monster. A monster with fierce green eyes, a body that speaks of ruthless power–but a touch gentle as a caress. Ryder knows things about her, secrets Sabine needs to learn fast. Because while they might soon escape this prison, she’s fighting an urge to set all her desires free..
Another fantastic release from my all time favorite author, Cynthia Eden! She never fails to blow me away with each and every release with her exquisitely crafted worlds and full characters. Once Bitten, Twice Burned returns us to the world where phoenixes rise from the ashes against all odds and love always finds a way.
Being one of the oldest vampires in existence makes Ryder a very dangerous foe to anyone who crosses him. Double crossed, caught and subsequently starved his only thoughts are of getting out and killing everyone responsible. Until the maniacal doctor in charge of the paranormal holding facility throws a delicious morsel into his cell. Thirst wins out and as he sinks his teeth into the beautiful woman he only knows one thing. She is his.
Sabine has no idea what she truly is. Doomed to rise again and again from the flames with no memory of who she is, Sabine is an elusive phoenix who isn’t supposed to exist. From the moment she’s thrown into the cell of a hungry vampire she knows she’s being played with. The facility is ruthless and the vampire whose cell she’s thrown into is just as bad, and yet he’s her only hope of getting out alive.
This was such an awesome, fast paced read from beginning to end that I hated to see it end…as is typical whenever I read something by Cynthia. Action packed and full of intrigue and lust filled scenes that had Sabine begging and this reader panting this one was a definite win.
Book one in this series gave readers an insight into the world and the dangerous characters who fill it. Creatures of all kinds are prevalent and the general populations has been made aware of their existence. Typical of the human race, upon realizing “others” exist they immediately want to experiment on them to figure out what makes them special and how to exploit them. This, of course, includes torture. Behind the experiments is a vicious man who is intent on figuring Sabine out and using Ryder to do it.
Ryder is outrageously yummy and wonderfully alpha and I feel in love with him from the first page. As one of the oldest vamps he’s more lethal than most and as he falls further in love with Sabine his protective instincts kick into over drive resulting in scorching scenes and great fights. Sabine fights for her man as well which made me love her too. Take charge women, even when scared and faced with the unknown, make for great reading. Damsels in distress get old but a woman who can hold her own never gets tiring.
I cannot wait till book 3 comes out centering around the mentally disturbed doctors brilliant daughter Cassie who desperately wants to make amends for her fathers sins by helping the one man who both frightens her and who makes her crave things she never thought she would.
I give Once Bitten, Twice Burned by Cynthia Eden 4 stars!
