Welcome to Destiny Falls, New York, home of the Bomb Squad—an ice hockey team full of rugged military heroes. But the season’s biggest match-up isn’t on the ice as one of their own prepares to go head to head with his new boss… Allison Whitely’s ex left her with a mountain of debt and Cloud Nine, a struggling boat rental business. With zero job skills, her only hope of getting back in the black lies in a brooding ex-soldier who has her seeing red…
Theo Lacroix’s teammates are counting on their star player to help them win an upcoming high profile hockey game. But when a sexy tornado of a woman sweeps into town and expects him to help her with Cloud Nine, Theo is tempted to skate away from it all. Theo vowed to never again be someone’s knight in shining armor, but his feelings—and desire—for Allison are becoming harder to ignore. He longs to save her, but to win Allison’s love, he’ll have to throw out his old playbook and take the ultimate risk…playing from the heart.
Another winner from Ms. Cutler, I have read several books by this author and have enjoyed each one and now she is introducing us to a new series featuring wounded Veterans that all play for a hockey team. I am looking forward to meeting each of these engaging men and women as they find their true love.
Allison Whitley, she has always hated water. Water has been a part of important roles in her life, most in bad situations. She found out with the rest of the world her city councilman husband was a cheating bastard as he was arrested for embezzlement, she was nine months pregnant at the time when her world came crashing down. Now eight months later, with her now ex convicted she wants to start a new life in Destiny Falls, Vermont.
Theo Lacroix is a member of the Destiny Falls Bomb Squad, a hockey team made up of wounded veterans. He runs a fishing and tourist boat rental business, one he had hopes of buying from an absent owner, unfortunately that owner was just convicted of embezzlement and the business is up in the air. Allison and Theo’s worlds come together in a whirlwind of resentment, anger and of course sexual attraction.
What a fun start to a new series, these sexy men and women will definitely appeal to those that love romance with heart.
Allison is a bit naive in the beginning, almost to the point where I was unsure she could win me over, but she does. She knows how unaware she was with the marriage, she had this fantasy about marriage since she was a young child, and the reality was just as far as you could get to her dream. But she bounces back and wants to take charge of her life, unfortunately it is at the expense of Theo’s future. The two of them are explosive from the beginning, and of course the attraction is apparent to everyone but them. Theo tries to avoid her as much as possible hoping she goes away, but since she has nowhere to go, they are stuck with each other. Theo is just all about your classic hero with tall walls surrounding his emotions. And I love how he always reverts back to French when stressed, which has happened frequent since Allison first came to town. His back story plays an important part of the person he is today, the pressure that his family and community put on him as a child was immense and he shies away from anything having to do with people being thankful to him.
Since this is a series featuring the players on a hockey team, secondary characters play pivotal roles in this book, I like how the women of the community embrace Allison as well as the men of the hockey team, in which she immediately becomes of fan of, and of course they all love her daughter Katie, who is a cutie. I really like Harper, the owner of the local bar who has a love/hate relationship with Brandon, another sexy hockey player; I am hoping they have a story in the future as it will be epic.
The overall premise is wonderful, these wounded vets want to feel a part of something again and this team means the world to each of them and I am excited to find out their stories. Ms. Cutler is a favorite author and I can’t wait for more.
I give Risky Business by Melissa Cutler 4.25 Stars!
