In His Sights is a fun, entertaining romance with suspense and mystery. This is part of a series of books that take place in Sugarland, Tennessee featuring both police officers and paramedics living and loving in the community. I like how there are many characters that are either related or know each other; it makes for a series that feels very connected.
Robyn Lassiter is an emergency room doctor in Sugarland, Tennessee. She is overcoming heartache from her husband’s death several years ago while keeping a busy work schedule and taking care of their daughter, Maddie.
Christian Ford works for the Sugarland police as a cop, he moved here about six months ago to be near his cousin Shane. Since he moved here, he has been fighting health problems, and to top it off was in a car accident. He tries to keep his weakness to himself but his new partner and boss see through him and vow to watch him before he keels over.
It is amazing that both Robyn and Chris have not met yet as they have several mutual friends, and when they do finally meet, when he is about to drop after walking down her street, there is an immediate attraction that neither can deny. He has always been looking for the one, and apparently subconsciously also a family as he bonds with Maddie and they become fast friends. When his sickness, some mysterious burglaries and heart attack deaths become too much of a coincidence they must work fast before someone else is killed.
This is an enjoyable romantic suspense that is not too disturbing. The characters are engaging and I like the camaraderie and friendships they share throughout. This is the third book in the Sugarland Blue series with characters from the other books frequently appearing in the scenes, and the author does a great job of keeping you in the loop so you will not feel lost and it can easily be read as a standalone.
Robyn is a very likable heroine; she is intelligent and just wants to make a good life with her daughter Maddie. Her marriage ended in tragedy and she is not sure she is ready to make the commitment jump and let herself be hurt again but when she meets Chris all her worries go out the window and they hit it off right away. No waiting the three dates for them, the chemistry crackles as they steam up the scenes when they are alone. Chris is fun and very engaging, he is everyone’s favorite and it is interesting that all his friends and acquaintances immediately tell Robyn that he is the perfect person, someone everyone loves. He almost seems too perfect as I did not see many flaws, other than the fact that he is TOO perfect.
The secondary characters all play important roles in the story, the town is small and many of the characters are related so interaction between these people is key. I like how they all have each other’s back and work toward solutions together.
The pace is fast from beginning to end, we watch Chris fight for his life as his health goes downhill and you are on the edge to see when they make several connections to move to solve the murders. As the danger amps up the story races toward the end with several fighting for their lives. An exciting romantic suspense that is not too deep, a bit on the light side, but a great read if you enjoy some thrilling page turning romance.
I give In His Sights by Jo Davis 4 stars!
