It’s Not You….It’s Me. Okay, Maybe It’s A Little Bit You.

Over the last 2 months I’ve had an incredibly hard time finding a book that holds my attention. Yeah, there has been a few here and there that rocked my world (*cough Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover cough*) but honestly I’ve DNF-ed more books than I care to admit. It’s not that they are badly written but for whatever reason I couldn’t make it past the quarter mark for any of them. If you know me at all you know how much I HATE not finishing something I start, but unfortunately my list of review books is simply to long to keep trying to force something that isn’t meant to be. This isn’t a complete list….I don’t have that kind of time at the moment…but here are a few of the most recent.  -Nikki-

The moment Tilly Floret sees the sleek Bentley driving down Main Street, she knows trouble has arrived in her sleepy little town. A mysterious job posting keeps appearing at the diner where she works, and she can’t resist applying. No matter that the entire town of Bayou Vert is whispering about the wealthy, powerful man behind it all and his scandalous return home. The moment his ice-blue eyes meet hers, he ignites an all-consuming desire she never imagined possible, one she can’t deny.

Ex-navy SEAL Boone Benoit never thought he’d set foot in Louisiana again. As soon as Tilly starts her new job in his pleasure club, he senses a kindred soul. One who has carefully guarded secrets of her own-and a simmering hunger for the taboo rites of mastery and submission. The only difference is she doesn’t yet know it. Now as Boone tutors Tilly in the tantalizing world of leather and lace, she will shed her every inhibition and surrender to him, body and soul.

This book had a lot of promise. I really enjoyed the blurb. Unfortunately that’s about all I enjoyed. The plot lagged. I was incredibly bored. The sex scenes were “meh” and I had absolutely zero need to continue. So I didn’t. I won’t be continuing this series.

She’s given up on finding love…

Veterinarian Shelley Morgan has always preferred animals to humans, and not simply because she can communicate with them psychically. Unlike most people she’s known, animals have never broken her heart. But after six months in her new town, some of her favorite four-legged companions begin disappearing from the local zoo. Determined to track down the animals and their thief, the telepathic vet decides to investigate, unknowingly delving into a deadly mystery…

He’s ready to make her heart go wild…

Although his bear-like physique has been an advantage in the Tidewater Police Department, Dev Jones’s size often intimidates people. Only Shelley has seen past his massive build to the intelligent man inside, but that was years ago. So when she contacts him requesting his help to solve a series of animal kidnappings, he’s eager to reconnect with her. But the thefts escalate to murder and all the evidence points to Shelley as the killer, and Dev faces a devastating choice: forsake his career or risk losing the woman he’s grown to love…

Chalking this one up to the dreaded “sophomore slump”. I adored book one and was so eager to read this one. Dev is an awesome character but I had issues with Shelley. Since her animal communication takes place solely in her head there was just to much internal speak for me and not enough human dialogue. I tried three times to continue with this one but it is what it is. Not for me. I will try again with book three and hopefully I’ll feel differently.

Aliya is a mermaid with an obsession. Though contact with humans is strictly forbidden, she can’t seem to stay away from the incredibly handsome Devin, who visits her lake night after night. Her body and soul have never been drawn to anyone like this before. Deciding that her longing for Devin is worth the risk, she goes to him. As their lust for each other deepens, Aliya grows to need his touch as much as she needs water.

Devin believed Aliya was a perfect fantasy his mind created-until the breathtaking mermaid swims to shore. Courtesy of a magical wish, Aliya is newly human, and she and Devin give in to their passion again and again. But Aliya’s mortal form is only temporary. If they don’t have the strength to part ways when the time comes, their illicit love could rock the balance between the realms forever . .

Mermaid erotic romance? Sounds awesome…kinda like a dirty, un-Disney like The little Mermaid huh? Nope. Boring. Story was discombobulated and only held together with the mediocore sex scenes. Can’t do it.

The Wrath Of The Dimlpe by Lucy WoodhullAvailable: Now Amazon/B&N

Life is perfect for Samantha Lytton, big-screen superheroine. Her acting career flourishes, the bad guys from her past are in prison, and she’s married her true love, be-dimpled ex-thief Sam. Everything is so rosy and idyllic, it’s like a freaking princess movie. Well, an R-rated one. Nothing could mar Sam and Samantha’s fairy tale romance!

Except the moment in the emergency room when Sam, his head cracked open, turns to his beloved wife and asks, “Who the hell are you?”

He’s suffering from…Samnesia! (At least he still laughs at Samantha’s stupid puns.) How on earth does that happen? If Samantha is going to live her very own soap opera, she’d choose an evil twin over amnesia any day.

With no idea who has attacked Sam or why, Samantha is left in the depths of despair with a hunk who doesn’t remember her, a creepy film director who’s getting more threatening by the minute, and, oh, the people who continue to try to murder Sam. How do you solve a mystery wrapped in a head bandage inside an empty skull? Nothing a little Norwegian fish porn and a lot of cleavage can’t fix. Hopefully.

Samantha needs every ounce of her courage to win her husband back before their enemies catch up to finish them both off. She thought their love was written in the stars, but it might be scribbled on an Etch-A-Sketch.

Adored book one! Laughed all the way through it for it’s zany, off the wall, manic writing. Loved it. Book two was good although what once emade me laugh started getting on my nerves. Book three? Please stop with the crazy writing. I’m not laughing anymore.

In the beginning, there was him.

Gutsy, green-eyed Eleanor never met a rule she didn’t want to break. She’s sick of her mother’s zealotry and the confines of Catholic school, and declares she’ll never go to church again. But her first glimpse of beautiful, magnetic Father Søren Stearns and his lust-worthy Italian motorcycle is an epiphany. Suddenly, daily Mass seems like a reward, and her punishment is the ache she feels when they’re apart. He is intelligent and insightful and he seems to know her intimately at her very core. Eleanor is consumed—and even she knows that can’t be right.

But when one desperate mistake nearly costs Eleanor everything, it is Søren who steps in to save her. She vows to repay him with complete obedience…and a whole world opens before her as he reveals to her his deepest secrets.

Danger can be managed—pain, welcomed. Everything is about to begin.

I should have known better. I really should have. When I heard this book was coming out I thought , nah. I’ll pass. But in my vulnerability I decided to give it a go. I just don’t care about Eleanor in her younger years. It’s a shame too because The Original Sinners is one of my all time favorite series…EVER.
