With the chaos of summer tourists and fall birders out of town, counselor Patience Price is looking forward to the quiet life she remembers. She longs for some peace. And an apple fritter. But the calm is cut short when a reality show sets up camp to film a special about ghosts on her little island. Now fans, reporters and crew have flocked to sleepy Chincoteague. Who knew ghost hunters had an entourage?

When two cast members are killed in a room at the local B&B—a room usually occupied by Patience’s FBI agent boyfriend, Sebastian—she finds herself on the case. Sebastian doesn’t want Patience ruffling any feathers but, as always, she can’t help herself. Patience promises to let Sebastian handle the investigation—he is FBI, after all—but after a drive-by shooting, her wicked curiosity gets the best of her. And with the TV show forging ahead with filming, the list of suspects (and the line of food trucks) only grows. But has the shooter already flown the coop? And how do you find a killer when you don’t know who the target is?

This is an enjoyable series with characters that create havoc causing hilarious situations, and of course enough action and danger to keep you turning the pages until the end.

Patience is enjoying being back home, her counseling practice, or whatever you can call it, is going well, although she is unsure how to pay bills when most of her clients pay her in interesting ways. She is also having fun with her boyfriend Sebastian who is on the island for an extended stay until the he and his fellow FBI agents find the mob boss who has been trying to kill him.

When Adrian, a mayoral candidate rents his house out to a production company for a reality show called The Watchers, fans invade the island causes disorder with the locals in anticipation of the show’s Halloween special to be filmed here. Then two people from the show are murdered in their sleep and the accusations fly, no one is sure what to believe. Adrian and Clair are intrigued by the murders while Patience tries to stay uninvolved, but things hit too close when Patience and Adrian are shot at, is it because of the recent murders or Sebastian’s past?

Having read the first two books, I was excited to see what happens next for this island community and the hilarious inhabitants. I have to admit that I enjoyed this one as much or more than the first, the story is entertaining and I like the ending.

I love Patience; she is interesting and so much fun. And although it is not always her fault she gets into trouble, she sure manages to find herself in the thick of things. She is still struggling with her feelings for Adrian, she calls what they have “complicated” but she believes she has finally settled into a nice place with him and I enjoy how their relationship is in the end.

I have to say that I adore both Sebastian and Adrian for different reasons. Adrian is the quirky ex-boyfriend that everyone loves, he is running for Mayor which I believe is perfect for him and if I want anything for the future it is for him to find an amazing heroine. And Sebastian is the perfect hero, he is strong and very protective and even though at times Patience balks when he issues an order, she loves being with him. The relationship works between these two and the chemistry sizzles. I also like how they end up, very cute and sweet.

The secondary characters truly make this a fun and entertaining story, Patience’s parents are quirky and cool as they run their shop that caterers to tourist. Patience’s friend Clair adds much to the mix and I enjoy watching her relationship with Fargas, the town sheriff, grow, and of course we can’t forget Adrian’s mom and others that round out the interesting people that live on the island.

The story is fast paced with twists and turns to satisfy any mystery lover, there is a continued element from the beginning, a mob boss that wants Sebastian dead, then you add in the new murders and I was frequently torn on who was in danger and who was after whom, but I like that in a mystery as it keeps me turning the pages. The premise of the reality show, The Watchers filming on the island is amusing; it brought chaos and hilarious moments as the show’s followers invade the town, even many of the inhabitants of the town get into the spirit and enjoyed the antics. This is the third in the series and although there is an ongoing story line, the author does a great job of keeping the reader in the know. And since they are all great books and the characters are so intriguing, I would definitely recommend reading them all.

I give Murder in Real Time by Julie Anne Lindsey 4.25 stars!
