“Chris and I have faced our demons and bared our souls to one another in Paris. Now that we are back home in San Francisco, I want to believe that nothing can tear us apart. Not Ava’s accusations against me to the police, or Chris’s fear that he will destroy me as he feels he did Amber. And not Mark, who was once too intimately a part of our lives, and who I can see crumbling inside out. He believes he is invincible, just as I want to believe Chris and I are invincible. We have to be invincible. We need each other too much for any other ending.”

The Inside Out series has quickly become one of my favorites over the last four books. Whenever a new one comes out I glom onto it was ferocious tenacity  until I’m on the last page. Then I mourn for at least a week, pining over the wait for the next book. What started out as a mystery of sorts has evolved into a dark , sinfully pleasurable read where you never know what’s going to happen next or how everything is connected. The intricate tale Jones has wove just seems to get more complicated as this series progresses. I was shocked that there was a confession so soon in one of the previous books regarding Rebecca’s disappearance but after reading No In Between I can see what Jones was going for and how everything is slowly coming together.

Chris and Sara are a wonderful couple together even if they are constantly telling each other they need to communicate better and then one of them hides or doesn’t disclose something. So you’re telling each other to communicate better then not communicating. Makes perfect sense. Those parts annoy me, however when they are “on” it’s sheer perfection. The sex is erotic and at times highly intense to the point if giving me shivers…which is almost always a good thing. Jones paints the picture so perfectly I can see each scene play out in my head with vivid clarity.

I will say that No In Between is definitely drier than the other books. This may have had to do with the fact that everything seemed to be at a stand still and there was a lot of information to get across to the readers. I found this one to be drastically less dramatic and at times I’ll admit I got bored. Honestly, I think it has to do more with the fact that I am overly eager to get to the book with Mark’s POV, because, damn…I LOVE HIM. Luckily there is a novella in between the full length books to tide me over. Bonus that it is in Mark’s POV! No In Between does end with a slight cliffhanger but it’s nothing that I found earth shattering or overly shocking. There are some revelations sprinkled throughout the book so all in all it does further the plot. It just seemed like it took longer to get there than previous installments.

This is definitely a series to be read in order. Don’t even think about trying to read them on their own. You’ll certainly be lost if you do.

I give No In Between by Lisa Renee Jones 3 stars
