He’s amazingly wealthy, sinfully gorgeous, and can bring her to heights of pleasure she’s never before known. For Livy, there’s no turning back. She’s determined to be the light in Miller Hart’s dark world. Yet this new life comes with a steep price…

Miller knows that the power he possesses hasn’t come without sacrifices-but he won’t let Livy be one of them. Though he wants nothing more than to have her in every way, his first duty is to protect her at all costs…from his sins, his enemies, and especially himself.

But as their insatiable affair intensifies, the two attract the attention of an obsessive-and dangerous-third party. Discovering new revelations about Miller that rock her to the core, Livy will have to decide whether he’s ruined beyond repair. And he must face his fear that in order to save her, he may have to lose her after all…

Book two of the One Night trilogy is here and I must say, I really enjoyed it! Once again Malpas has delivered characters I love and even one or two that I love to hate. In book one readers learned Miller had a secret life as a high priced escort whose specialty in the bedroom made him highly sought after. A very horrible and aggravating scene towards the end had our heroine, Livy, running as fast as she could away from this puzzle of a man.

Obsession is a constant friend to Livy. She can’t get Miller out of her head and it’s inevitable that she go back to him regardless of the dark world and ominous warnings all around him. She’s torn between yearning and common sense for much of the book. I often felt sorry for Livy because she was getting so much flack from everyone. Her “best friend” comes off as a huge douche who can’t see that the way he lets men walk all over him is nearly the same thing as what he’s constantly bitching at Livy about. I was pretty glad that Miller beat the shit out of him…several times. Even if it was immature for two grown men to be throwing down on the street or Livy’s grandmas front yard. Not only does Livy have to put up with her friend but she’s also got her Mom’s ex-pimp claiming to be “protecting” her by being heavy-handed in his demands she live her life as he says. No wonder Livy goes blindly into the world Miller has been chained to. I would too if everyone else around me were assholes.

Miller has got to one of the most flawed heroes I’ve ever read. Not only is he OCD but he’s got some serious anger management issues, a drug habit (plus he drinks) and a severe phobia of certain things. High class women are constantly taking liberties with him and dismissing Livy as if she doesn’t exist. Props to her for not clawing some chicks eyes out. AND he’s got a bat-shit crazy hooker friend who is a bigger mess than he is. Seriously, there’s enough drama in this book to fill a soap opera for YEARS. Despite all of that (lol) I still found him to be endearing and worthy of salvation.

Of course, in addition to all that, Miller’s “boss” has found out about Livy and seems intent to take care of that distraction. Her interaction with him has been hurting his business. He vows to keep her safe, along with William and their many combined connections. I loved Miller’s commitment to keeping Livy safe/happy and how that sometimes meant he had to overcome some of his quirks.

While readers won’t get the answer to who Miller is a puppet for there are a few juicy tidbits that are sure to be answered in the trilogy’s conclusion early 2015. There is a slight cliffhanger. Nothing earth shattering, just enough to guarantee you come back.

Denied is a smoking hot dose of  insanity! Definitely worth the read. Malpas is quickly becoming an auto-buy author!

I give Denied by Jodi Ellen Malpas 4 stars!
