He’s working undercover for the good guys. That doesn’t mean he’s one of them.
HE’S A KILLER.
Thorne McKelvey knows exactly how Nadia sees him—as a brute and a killer just kinky enough to play her sexy games. And that’s how it has to stay. Leaving her was the hardest thing he ever did, but his undercover mission could blow up at any second. No way will he drag Nadia down with him.
SHE CAN’T RISK HER HEART.
Maybe it was foolish to fall in love with her late father’s deadliest henchman, but Nadia Volkov’s not sorry; without Thorne she wouldn’t have their beautiful little boy. There’s nothing she won’t do to protect Benny, which means she must hide his identity—especially from his father.
Now Thorne has burst back into her home, searching for clues to a gangland mystery…and stirring a hunger Nadia hasn’t felt in two years. But Benny’s identity isn’t the only secret she’s keeping, and things are turning deadly. Can Thorne and Nadia trust each other long enough to stay alive and have a chance at happiness?
This book was full of so much wow. I don’t even know where to begin. Into The Shadows was much darker than the previous two books in the series but no less action packed or attraction.
Past party girl Nadia used to take everything for granted until the night her father was gunned down and she finally learned the truth about the man he was. Now she’s determined to find a mother she was taken away from in the bowels of the sex trade industry and be a mother herself to a little boy without a father.
Thorne may come across as the number two of an elite and brutally violent gang, but he’s actually deep undercover with no backup. Nadia was the only light in his dark world but even that couldn’t last because Thorne doesn’t get a happily ever after. He only gets darkness and death. Until he has to see Nadia again and the attraction flares brilliantly back to life. But keeping her safe may be his hardest job yet.
Into The Shadows is a definite nail biter of a book. It’s full of characters hiding their true nature and you’re never quite sure which side people are playing on. I was perched on the edge of my seat as Thorne and Nadia navigated the darkness that consumed them both. Carolyn Crane really gets into the minds of these two characters which almost made this a more psychological suspense for me.
Nadia is intent on finding her mother in the local gang sweat shops since her age made her to old to prostitute any longer. In her search she frees countless women from their personal hells and her hired help steals anything they can get their hands on to help show down the cash flowing into the pockets of the leaders. Unfortunately one of those gangs happens to be the one Thorne is deep undercover in and the leader has been looking for a reason to take him out. When he comes back into her life she’s determined not to tell him he now has a son in order to protect him. After all, she has no clue he’s undercover.
Poor Thorne, he’s just so scarred. So dark. He prefers degrading himself in order to turn him on. He sees himself as unworthy of anything good and doesn’t get how Nadia feels about him. Instead he tells himself she’s slumming it and just using him for sex. Sure it was a bit kinky but overall I just felt a bit sad for him. His strength was amazing, especially towards the end when he drops his cool exterior for raw emotion. There is nothing that will stop him from taking down someone who threatens those few he holds dear. There’s some pretty gruesome and graphics scenes towards the end.
Into The Shadows is a dark, gritty romance peppered with some amazing heat filled scenes. I loved watching Thorne coming to the realization that he wasn’t alone in the world. That he could trust and count on someone other than himself. This is definitely one for the keeper shelf.
I give Into The Shadows by Carolyn Crane 4 stars!
