The Evolution of the Publishing Industry with Carolyn Brown
What fun to visit with y’all about evolving with the publishing industry today! My newest cowboy romance, The Trouble with Texas Cowboys, hit the shelves a few days ago and I’m so excited with the brand spanking new idea for this series.
Cowboy romances have been around for years and years but coming up with a new idea for a series isn’t so easy. We, as authors, struggle for something fresh that no one else has done, realizing all the time that the old adage about “there’s no new thing under the sun” is hanging right up there like a full moon over our heads.
When I went looking for recent cowboy romance books that had feuds as big as the Hatfields and McCoys, I didn’t find many and I almost danced a jig right there in the living room floor. Sexy cowboys like Sawyer O’Donnell and sassy ladies like Jill Cleary finding love in the middle of a feud trying to break them up even before they got off the ground in a relationship absolutely intrigued me. So with a little research I found my fictional town of Burnt Boot and kicked off a new series. And The Trouble with Texas Cowboys is the second book in that series.
The publishing industry has to evolve. It has to bring new ideas to the table. It has to keep the readers happy so they’ll continue to pick up those books that come out each month. That brings back to mind something an editor told me a few years ago. He said that in today’s world with so many techie toys, authors have to deliver a product that keeps the reader turning page after page until they reach the very end of the book. It has to be so good that they immediately go looking for the next book or maybe one that’s already been published by that author and they haven’t read it.
In the seventeen years since I got my first “call”, I’ve seen the industry make some really giant steps even in the physical aspect. In those days I sent my manuscript to the editor in hard copy and got my corrections back in the same way. Now we shoot it across cyber space with the touch of a key. And ebooks have opened up a whole new world for our readers. It’s amazing how things have evolved and I’m so glad to be part of this world we live in.
If you like cowboy romance with a new twist on an old idea then keep your hats on because there’s two more Burnt Boot books on the way. And the feud gets hotter and hotter as Mavis Brennan and Naomi Gallagher find new ways to get even with each other.
What would you as readers like to see in a new cowboy series? Maybe you’ve got an idea that would spark a brand new family saga.
Type: Contemporary Romance
Can a girl ever have too many cowboys?
No sooner does pint-sized spitfire Jill Cleary set foot on Fiddle Creek Ranch than she finds herself in the middle of a hundred-year-old feud. Quaid Brennan and Tyrell Gallagher are both tall, handsome, and rich…and both are courting Jill to within an inch of her life. She’s doing her best to give these feuding ranchers equal time-too bad it’s dark-eyed Sawyer O’Donnell who makes her blood boil and her hormones hum…
