Livy has never known pure desire like this. The gorgeous Miller Hart captivates her, seduces her, and worships her in deliciously sinful ways. He knows her innermost thoughts, drawing her ever deeper into his dangerous world.
Miller will do anything to keep Livy safe, even if it means risking his own life. But his dark history isn’t the only thing that threatens their future together. As the truth of Livy’s family legacy unravels, an unsettling parallel between past and present comes to light. Her world spinning out of control, Livy finds herself caught between the rapture of an all-consuming love-and a deadly obsession that could destroy them both . . .
One Night Unveiled is finally here! I’ve been looking forward to this book since I picked up book one and two sometime last year. I’ve enjoyed the quirky OCD hero as he learned, somewhat, to cope with Olivia’s need to mess his world up. Along the way I got mad at Miller for his high handed, controlling ways but his softer side always seemed to win me back over. Sure he could be a jerk at times..ok a lot of times..but I understood his drive to protect and shield Livy. Besides, Livy spent an inordinate amount of time fucking with him and taking him out of his comfort zone. There were times I felt kinda bad for the guy that he loved a woman who kept trying to “fix” him. Part of me found it hilarious and the other part was all…leave the guy alone and stop moving his shit.
I really enjoyed the clandestine nature of this book. I never quite knew where it was going and that’s hard to do because I read so much. Aspects of the intertwining relationships were complex yet still consuming reading. I was eager to find out where Livy and Miller ended up because getting out of the business of being the most sought after male escort cannot be easy when someone at the top stands to loose a considerable amount of income at his departure.
There were a couple of things I found redundant. I’m so over the “oops I’m pregnant” trope. Seriously…Twilight, Fifty Shades. Ok, granted those are basically the same book….. A ton of other books I’ve read yet that blend together so I can’t name them right now. Stop it. Stop it right the hell now. Stop forgetting your birth control you silly women. Just get off the pill and say hello to the shot every 3 months. Especially if you’re in a situation that clearly doesn’t need more stress added to it. The story will go on without that little bundle of joy swimming around in there. I also dislike the anti-climactic endings. If you’re going to lead us up to something, at least do us the courtesy of making it freaking spectacular. I found the climax of Unveiled to be a bit blah. I guess I wanted more in the end from the guy who has “held the strings” the entire series. I also really disliked how juvenile Livy could get at times of high frustration. Goodness I wanted to smack some sense into her at times. Her go to default when she was upset? Get plastered, say stupid shit, throw things and be violent. That just doesn’t scream “mature enough to have a baby” to me. I get that we are all human and in the end of this one I thought she’s definitely done some growing up…but come on.
Even with my couple of misgivings, I did enjoy the book and was satisfied with where and how everyone ended up in the end. The sex was incredibly hot as I’ve come to expect from Malpas and I enjoyed the eventual growth of both characters. I really like this authors voice and the detailed way in which she portrays her stories. This are filled with intrigue and some kinky sex but the comical moments lighten it up a lot. I can’t wait to see what Malpas comes out with next!
I give Unveiled by Jodi Ellen Malpas 3.75 stars!
