A one-time bad girl comes home to small-town Oregon in the first in a sexy, heartfelt new series from USA TODAY bestselling author Maisey Yates…

Sadie Miller isn’t expecting any welcome-home parades on her return to Copper Ridge. Least of all from part-time rancher, full-time lawman Eli Garrett. The straight-laced, impossibly hot deputy sheriff glares at her like she’s the same teenage hoodlum who fled town ten years ago. But running from her demons has brought Sadie full circle, ready to make a commitment at last. Not to a man, but to a B and B. On Garrett land. Okay, so her plan has a tiny flaw… Eli works too hard to let a blonde ball of trouble mess up his town. But keeping an eye on Sadie makes it tough to keep his hands off her. And if she’s so wrong for him, why does being with her feel so right?

This book worked well for me on several levels. I enjoyed the grumpy hero who takes care of his family, the heroine who comes back to her hometown to face her demons and the sparks that fly whenever they are together.

Sadie Miller left one night ten years ago and has been running ever since. She became a therapist to help solve other people’s problems which helped deflect her own, until one day she decided to confront the pain she left behind by going home. She has plans to open a B&B in the area, and it is the first time she has ever made a commitment longer than six month.

Eli Garrett has lived in Copper Ridge all his life, he helps his brother and sister run the Garrett Ranch along with a full time job as a deputy sheriff. He is a gruff, grouchy man who runs his life with order and efficiency. When he see Sadie is back in town little does he know that his life will be turned upside down.

I absolutely adored this book, the hero and heroine set sparks off each other whenever they are together. The chemistry is electric and I love how their banter had me smiling and chuckling throughout the book.

Sadie is adorable, she left town years ago and no one ever knew what happened to her. She spent the last ten years roaming from place to place. She became a therapist to help others, thinking she could somehow overcome the mess her parents made of her life, but after several years she decided it was not the profession for her, so is starting over in her hometown. I love her personality, she is smart and sassy and at most times she no filter, which leads to some witty conversations between her and Eli, I seriously laughed out loud several times when they would spar with words and the innuendoes she threw out stumped Eli at every turn.

Eli is a great hero, someone who has taken care of his family since their mom walked out and their dad decided drinking was the way to live his life. He wants everything in order, nothing messy to create havoc in his life, unfortunately Sadie is all about messing with his life and I loved it. The two have amazing chemistry and when they are alone things sizzle. They propose a no strings relationship since they can’t be around each other without touching and it gradually becomes more. I like how their friendship blooms as they find they enjoy being together. They still have obstacles to overcome, mainly the past and the history that has shaped their lives.

The pace worked well as the author kept me engaged throughout the story. I liked the secondary characters, they all have important roles, the town is small and Eli’s family is extremely close and always present. Eli’s sister, Kate is cute and I look forward to her story one day, but next up is Conner, the other grumpy brother who has lost much in his life, I look forward to his fall. I am a sucker for small town romance and this is one of the best I have read lately, the start of a new series by an author who I have enjoyed reading before. I highly recommend this second chance, coming home story.

I give Part Time Cowboy by Maisey Yates 4.5 stars!
