After his mother dies, rock star Ace White—lead singer of the red-hot band Wicked White—is done with the celebrity game. The phony people, the meaningless one-night stands: he doesn’t want any of it anymore. Quitting in the middle of a sold-out tour, Ace sets out to find some place—any place—where he can be alone.

Aspiring singer Iris Easton’s life has never been easy. First, her mother walked out on her when she was a kid. Now she’s buried in debt, weeks after losing her beloved grandmother. When a mysterious and sexy new guy moves in next door, Iris can’t help but be drawn to his soulful gaze. She can tell there’s something from his past haunting him—something he’s not telling her.

Just as Ace starts falling for Iris, the media go on a worldwide hunt to find the missing rocker. Will true love conquer all, or will the truth be the very thing that tears the couple apart?

Wicked White is the first book I’ve read by Michelle Valentine and while I liked it, overall I wasn’t as impressed as I wanted to be.Our hero, Ace, is running from a music career he feels isn’t letting him express his creativity. Instead he’s singing pop music and playing the part of the front man heartthrob to a band he doesn’t even like. After the death of his adoptive mother he flees the limelight and ends up in a small town trailer park that is currently owned by Iris, who is grieving over the loss of her grandmother. Iris has her own dreams of staring on a stage but has yet to find out where she fits. Taking a breather to figure out her grandmothers affairs has uncovered a hefty tax debt she has no idea how to pay

Ace is a total dick to Iris time and time again which normally does it for me. I like dick heroes, what can I say? But Ace is not only a dick but he’s also kinda stalkerish at the beginning…which weirded me out even if at one point his stalking pays off in the form of rescuing Iris from another epic dick in the trailer park. After Iris and Ace come to an understanding, they fall madly in love and it’s all hearts and flowers for a few months until the other shoe drops, some stuff happens, some things are said and then shit hits the fan and they part ways tragically. This was about 60% in. The rest of the book focuses on how each of them needs to get their own lives in order if they have any chance to make a reunion. There are a lot of hurt feelings to overcome and Ace makes several more missteps where Iris is concerned which made zero sense to me as a reader since he was going out of his way to profess his love to her on national platforms.

I guess, in the end, I wasn’t feeling this one liked I wanted to. I don’t know if it was the author’s voice or what but I wasn’t engrossed in the story like I wanted to be. By the end I was just glad they got their HEA but it wasn’t something  I felt strongly about either way. I’m not sure where the next book is going…if it’ll be with this couple again or another character. I didn’t really feel as if there were any other characters that stood out as potential hero/heroine material.

I give Wicked White by Michelle A Valentine 3 stars
