Cedar Ridge, Colorado, is famous for crisp mountain air, clear blue skies, and pine-scented breezes. And it’s the last place Lily Danville wants to be. But she needs a job, and there’s an opening at the hottest resort in her hometown. What has her concerned is the other hot property in Cedar Ridge: Aidan Kincaid-firefighter, rescue worker, and heartbreaker. She never could resist that devastating smile . . .
The Kincaid brothers are as rough and rugged as the Rocky Mountains they call home. Aidan has always done things his own way, by his own rules. And never has he regretted anything more than letting Lily walk out of his life ten years ago. If anyone has ever been in need of rescuing, she has. What she needs more than anything are long hikes, slow dances, and sizzling kisses. But that can only happen if he can get her to give Cedar Ridge-and this bad boy-a second chance . . . there?
Reading a book by Ms. Shalvis is always a treat, the characters are heartwarming, the romance sizzles and she always adds enough humor to make you smile. This is the first in a new series set in a Colorado town full of individuals that live for the thrill of adventure and I am excited for more.
Aiden Kincaid helps run the Kincaid Resort with his family. They are experiencing some cash flow problems so most of the family holds down other jobs to supplement their incomes so Aiden is also a firefighter and a member of a search and rescue team. He works alongside his two brothers Gray and Hudson and his sister Kenna, and each are dealing with their own issues.
Lily Danville has come back home after an embarrassing incident at her last job. She left ten years ago when her sister died from a fall off Dead Man’s Cliff and her father from a heart attack soon after. She just could not handle the guilt she felt and the sadness of missing her sister. The resort has given her a job and she is home to face some ghosts.
When Aiden realizes Lily is working at the resort, he finds his feelings for her have not diminished in the years she has been gone, now he just needs to convince her to stay.
This is a delightful start to a new series, I love second chance romances and this has all the things I am looking for in a story with emotion and heart.
I adored Aiden; he is protective of his family, works hard and is very sexy. Who would not fall for him? And I love how he is with Lily, very straight forward, telling her how he feels even though she is not accepting what he is giving and often pushes him away. But he was devastated when she left and he is struggling with what will happen if she leaves again.
Lily on the other hand is dealing with years of guilt about her sister. She left so soon after the death that she never really came to terms with her feelings and now that she is back she frequently looks up at the cliffs waiting for answers. She also is unsure of her feelings for Aiden, she was so sad when she left years ago she was unaware of how it affected him and now she is not sure what she can give.
The family dynamics are perfect, there is Gray the older brother who takes care of most things, Hudson the younger one who is trying to find his way and wants answers about the past that Aiden keeps to himself, their sister Kenna is a mess, trying to hide from the world and then the missing brother Jacob who joined the Army years ago but never kept in touch. I also enjoyed their relationship with their mother Char, she is dating again and it bothers each of them in different ways causing some hilarious situations. They all share a complicated history with their father who was abusive and cheated on Char, which caused ripple effects in each child. It will be interesting to see how things shake out in upcoming stories.
I can always count on Ms. Shalvis; she writes stories that bring warmth to your heart and make you feel at home. I am excited for this new series, I enjoyed Aiden and Lily’s story and the secondary characters we are introduced to have the potential to bring hours of happy reading as we get to know them. Each of the siblings seem to have a story to tell and I can’t wait to read them.
I give Second Chance Summer by Jill Shalvis 4.50 stars!
