Her power is a blessing.
Born on the Isle of Skye, Darcy is a beautiful woman of many gifts. Fortune-telling is her forte, and she remains the only Druid who could unlock the secrets—and desires—of a Dragon King. His name is Warrick. And now that Darcy’s seen into his dragon heart, nothing will ever be the same…
His passion is a curse.
Warrick never intended to put Darcy in harm’s way. But ever since she revealed a shocking truth, Darcy has been hunted by the Dark Fae, who want to use her powers for their own evil purposes. Now it’s up to Warrick to do whatever it takes to keep the woman who sets his soul on fire safe. But protecting Darcy means putting himself—and his entire race—in jeopardy. Is his desperate longing for one woman worth the risk of losing everything… for eternity?
What an amazing paranormal romance!! I was pleasantly surprised by this one, not only because of my fixation on dragons, but on the phenomenal writing and masterful world building! Going into this on the sixth installment was worrisome but within pages I knew it wouldn’t be an issue. By the end all I wanted to do was go back and read the first five, not because I was lost but because I was so intrigued with this world that I needed more RIGHT NOW.
Darcy left her home behind because she felt confined and controlled. Now years later, she’s settled into her life reaing people’s palms and being her own boss. When she’s approached by a man who claims he’s a dragon whose powers had been bound she’s curious enough to try and help him out. She manages to help him, somewhat but he disappeared only to reappear nearly 3 years later claiming her life is in danger because she helped him. Hot on his trail are two more dragons who claim they want to help and that by unbinding the bound dragons magic she’s unleashed something she wasn’t supposed to .
Warrick is a loner by nature. Being with people makes him uncomfortable, even his dragon brothers in arms. Tasked to keep a certain fortune telling woman safe starts out easy enough until it becomes clear that she is more than the average woman. Suddenly keeping her safe is about way more than his job assignment and more about his growing feelings, no matter how uncomfortable they make him feel.
There is a bit of information I feel I may have better under stood had I read the first five books, but Grant does and excellent job telling the back story without it feeling overwhelming or making the reading sluggish. The instant attraction between Warrick and Darcy was immaculately done and kept me turning the pages as quick as I could.
I loved the world in which this series is set and I can’t wait to get back to it. It’s dark and gritty but Im still unsure if the villain is actually a villain at all. I feel he is one of those characters who does things because he already knows what the outcome will be. He’s seemingly the reason each dragon king has found his mate, even though the way he goes about it is almost cruel in nature. His own story is one that makes a person want to root for him in a way.
Bands of brothers is always a winner in my book and the dragon kings have that in spades. Each dragon brings something different to the table but they are all in the war against the dark fae together. They live and die by a code and even when it’s a gray area they do their best to uphold their traditions.
Soul Scorched is and excellent book full of romance, danger and betrayal. I can’t wait to read this series as it continues on!
I give Soul Scorched by Donna Grant 5 stars!
