“We met in a nightmare. The in-between world where time had no power over reason. We fell in love. We fell hard. But then we woke up. And it was over . . .”
RUIN & RULE
She is a woman divided. Her past, present, and future are as twisted as the lies she’s lived for the past eight years. Desperate to get the truth, she must turn to the one man who may also be her greatest enemy . . .
He is the president of Pure Corruption MC. A heartless biker and retribution-deliverer. He accepts no rules, obeys no one, and lives only to reap revenge on those who wronged him. And now he has stolen her, body and soul.
Can a woman plagued by mystery fall in love with the man who refuses to face the truth? And can a man drenched in darkness forgo his quest for vengeance-and finally find redemption?
Before I start this review I just want to say that I really wish publishers had to put on the back blurb whether or not readers were walking into a cliffhanger. I wish I had the option to choose if I was mentally capable of dealing with a cliffhanger at the time I picked up a book. Can you tell Ruin & Rule had a cliffhanger yet? Grr.
Sarah has been kidnapped and in transit to being sold to the bidder willing to pay for that unattainable white female. When her blindfold is whisked away she’s stunned to find that the person standing before her seems familiar when nothing has felt that way in years. Her forgotten past invading the fringes of her mind but always out of reach. The man not standing in front of her is hardened, mean and rough yet her body seems to know his. As the past finally catches up to the present and her mind starts to remember, she’s not prepared for the truth that’s revealed.
Being the president of an MC means never letting down his guard, but Arthur Killian can’t deny the scary likeness the trafficked woman bears to the one person from his past he mourns the most . The clock is ticking down until he can be free of her pull and pass her on to his buyer, but every minute he spends in her presence draws them closer and makes him feel guilty for emotions he swore never to experience again. As her memory start returning Sarah is determined to convince him they knew each other before she happened to become his prisoner. Is is lying or does is she truly the ghost from his past?
I’ve been a fan of Pepper Winters for quite some time. Her writing can be dark, skirting the lines of what’s an acceptable romance yet she always manages to bring the heat up to a scorching level. Her heroes are often mean, doing things that could and would be considered deplorable. Kill is no different even though he can justify every move he’s made because he seeks revenge for a love that never really got a chance to properly start. He’ll do anything needed in order to hold those responsible accountable, even selling flesh.
As a heroine I really enjoyed Sarah. Her scarred body never hindered her, instead it seemed to buoy her confidence and make her tougher. The buried secrets her mind held unraveled at an excellent pace keeping the story moving well. Even in the face of danger her bravery kept her together and sane. Her ability to calm and wind up Kill was fun reading that, at times, had me signing in pleasure and then growling in frustration.
The Pure Corruption MC series has geared up to an excellent start. The cliffhanger ending did succeed in ticking me off and then the release date of January 2016 made it worse, but it is what it is. Winters tales never cease to amaze and excite me! This MC has set the bar high with its unwavering sense of revenge, duty and the gray areas that lie between.
I give Ruin & Rule by Pepper Winters 4.50 stars!
