Six years ago, Chad’s hunt for a dangerous treasure turned deadly when his family home was set on fire, his parents killed. Faking his and his sister Amy’s death to protect her from further retaliation, he set her up in a new life with a friend’s help, letting her believe he’d died.
But now the men who hired Chad to find the treasure have found him, imprisoning and torturing him to learn where it’s hidden. A dark-haired beauty named Gia helps him escape, promising him access to his worst enemy. And as he tries to unravel the deep secrets of the past, he starts falling for her…only to discover she’s not what she seems.
Unable to trust anyone, Chad focuses on only two things: protecting his sister Amy and getting revenge. Is love even possible in the midst of heartache?
Book three of The Secret Life of Amy Benson series, changes POV from Amy to her brother Chad who has been missing for quite some time. Unbeknownst to Amy those after her had finally caught up with Chad and taken him prisoner in hopes of getting him to reveal the hiding place of one very sought after item.
Being tortured is Chad’s new normal and he’s grown accustomed to the pain. He can never reveal the information his captors seek. When a mysterious woman named Gia frees him he knows she has to be working her own angle. His last foray with a woman ended up with him being tortured so he’s not to keen on trusting another beautiful woman willing to use her sexuality to get what she wants.
I loved this book from start to finish! Chad and Gia worked so well together. I wasn’t sure about Gia at first because the author skirted around her reason for being involved for quite some time, making her a mysterious puzzle. She was an excellent heroine with her proud mentality , her snarky mouth and her ability to power through some dangerous situations she was unprepared for. Chad treated her pretty badly because of his past experience and his unwillingness to look further than the pretty exterior. He argued often with himself on whether to trust her even as she was trying to prove herself to him.
This is definitely a series you need to read in order because of the depth of the ongoing story arc. Amy and Liam make appearances toward the last quarter of the book and without reading the prior two I fear their relationship wouldn’t be understood correctly. Luckily those are awesome, action packed books as well.
