A blast from her past…
Charlotte Holden, Sugar’s favorite pediatrician, knows better than anyone that love only leads to heartbreak. Instead, she’s focused on creating the Grow Clinic, an outpatient center for children. All she has to do now is to host the best Founder’s Day Parade in the history of Sugar, Georgia, to win over a big-city donor. Easy as peach pie. Then sexy Jace McGraw blows back into town and utters those three words every woman dreads: we’re still married.
…leads to tantalizing trouble
Jace McGraw was making an offer on his dream business in Atlanta when he was told that his wife had some credit issues. Wait, his wife? The annulment went through years ago—or so he thought. He’d walked away only to keep his troublemaker reputation from ruining her dreams. But now that they have a second chance, Jace offers Charlotte a deal: he’ll grant a discreet divorce in exchange for 30 days and nights of marriage. Because this time he isn’t going to let her go without a fight.
This series isn’t called “Sugar, Georgia” for nothing. Marina Adair knows how to write down-home, southern charm romance and this book is no exception. A Taste of Sugar is the third book in the series, but it can be read as a standalone.
Dr. Charlotte Holden’s family is steeped in tradition. Able to trace her roots back to a United States Vice President, she is the current regent (leader) of the Sugar Peaches and the next in a long line of succesful doctors in her family. Under the direction of her father, she has made a name for herself as Sugar’s leading pediatrician. She has struggled her whole life to earn her father’s approval, living by the rules and pushing her own needs aside. In addition to working at the hospital, she is the brain child behind the Grow Clinic. A project near and dear to her heart, Charlotte wants to give her young patients the aftercare they deserve, and she has made it her life’s ambition to see the Grow Clinic succeed.
While she is a respected professional in her medical field and has a pristine reputation in her small town, she has a hidden wild side – and that side led her to being mixed up with Jace McGraw. The McGraw family isn’t quite the southern “royalty” that the Holdens are, but they have been a beloved part of Sugar for decades. While his two brothers have earned the respect and admiration of the town, Jace has always been the black sheep of the family. A troublemaker in his youth and a thrill-seeker as a grown man, he lives life on his own terms and refuses to settle down in Sugar.
Everything changes when a chance encounter between Charlotte and Jace leads to an impromptu date, a steamy night of romance, and a quickie wedding. For Charlotte, Jace is everything she is not: the big, bad tattooed mechanic who does what he pleases. Her teenaged crush is instantly transformed into lust and then love, all in the span of a few weeks. When Jace’s temper gets the best of him and scandal threatens his, and also Charlotte’s, reputation, he decides that leaving her is better than bringing her down with him.
What neither of them know is that the annulment he filed years ago was never finalized. When he returns to Sugar to explain, their romance is rekindled right away. Despite the years, despite the hurt he caused, Charlotte is unable to resist him. She tries to protect her heart by keeping him at arm’s length, and she tries to protect her reputation by keeping their affair a secret.
Jace deeply regrets the hurt he caused Charlotte years earlier, and he regrets even more having let her go. Now that he’s back in her life – and she’s back in his arms – he’s determined to figure out how to make the sweet doctor his forever. He has plans for his career in a city hours away, and he has family issues that keep him from truly allowing himself happiness until it’s almost too late. When he finally gives in to his feelings for Charlotte, he realizes that not only is his home with her, home is back in Sugar, Georgia – the place he ran from for so long.
If you’re looking for a story about two people who are so wrong for each other, yet being together is so, so right, this is for you. Charlotte and Jace were so much fun together (hello stairwell sex!). Jace adored her, and my heart melted every time he did something sweet. Charlotte tried valiantly to protect her heart, but once she lets him in, she knows what it’s like to finally have someone in her corner.
I give A Taste of Sugar by Marina Adair 4 stars!
