HE’S HELL ON WHEELS.
Tall, dark, and dangerously handsome, Zane “Tracker” Colter is the strong, silent type of tattooed muscle biker who drives women wild. But as a master of strategy for the outlaw MC club, Sinner’s Tribe, he doesn’t have time to play around with groupies and biker chicks-especially when he can’t stop thinking about Evie, the girl who got away…
SHE’S PLAYING WITH FIRE.
Evie’s been in love with Zane ever since they were children-until he broke her heart and disappeared. Now he’s back in her life, bigger and badder than ever. Zane is stunned by how beautiful and confident Evie’s become, using her artistic talent to customize motorcycles. He wants her so bad, he’d ride through fire to win her back. There’s one problem: Evie is dating his deadliest rival-the leader of the Black Jacks-and if Evie and Zane hook up, there’ll be hell to pay…
Oh, how I wanted to love this book!! Sarah Castille has roped me in with her Sinner’s Tribe series, and I had such high hopes for the dark, mysterious Zane and his Evie. If I hadn’t read the previous books I probably would give this one a higher score, because by itself it was fantastic. Zane was alpha and protective and emotional and vulnerable, and Evie was the one woman who could tame him. But after reading (and loving) Jagger’s and Cade’s stories, this one fell a little flat for me.
Zane and Evie have been inseparable since they were eight years old. Together with Jagger, now the Sinner’s Tribe president, they were kids drawn together by rough childhoods. While the three of them were the best of friends, there was always an extra special bond between Zane and Evie. They were both afraid to act on their feelings, reluctant to risk their friendship, both with each other and with Jagger, until one night when they were unable to deny their attraction.
That one perfect night of passion as teenagers ended in tragedy, with both of their fathers being killed and Zane on the run. Even though he was innocent, he knew nobody would believe the kid from the wrong side of the tracks, and he knew deep inside that Evie was better off without him. Zane vowed to do whatever he could to become the man Evie deserved, and he promised her he would come back to her. When he does return a few years later, he discovers Evie has not only moved on with another man but that they have a child.
Brokenhearted by the same woman twice, Zane has lived with his heart closed off, knowing he would never feel for another woman the way he has always felt about Evie. The Sinner’s have become his family, a brotherhood he’s searched for his entire life. A chance encounter brings Zane and Evie face to face once again. They are no longer the naïve kids they were. Life has hardened both of them, and their past history has made them both hesitant to let anyone in. Zane is astonished to learn that not only is Evie living in Conundrum, but she is no longer married, and the son he thought she had with another man is actually his child.
All of that would be enough baggage for any two people to try to work through. While he has always loved Evie, Zane has trust and commitment issues and always wonders if he – or she – would be better off if he left. All he’s ever wanted is to be with her, and he wants to do right by the son he never knew he had, but what kind of life can the vice president of a motorcycle club give them? Left alone years ago by the one man she’d always counted on, and mistreated by her ex-husband, Evie has sworn off men for good. She spends her time building her custom painting business and raising her son alone. She is totally unprepared for Zane to reenter her life. Their old chemistry flares to life instantly, and they both admit they will never love another like they do each other.
Unfortunately, in addition to their tumultuous past, Evie has caught the attention of Viper, a rival MC president. A few dates with him have let her explore her “wild side” while keeping him at arms length – or so she thinks. What results is a territory war between the Jacks and the Sinners, and a battle between Viper and Zane for Evie’s heart.
Like the previous books in this series, this one had gritty, raw feelings, hot sexy scenes and violence. There is nothing pretty about these books. This one lacked a certain edge that the others had, and I didn’t like how the author constantly portrayed Zane as having one foot out the door. He was alpha and protective, but so filled with self-doubt that it made it hard for me to love him. He and Evie were so hot and cold, one minute calling everything off and the next they were having sex in the shower. While this was a good continuation of the storyline between the Jacks and the Sinner’s, the romance didn’t flow as smoothly as I wanted.
I give Sinner’s Steel by Sarah Castille 3.5 stars!
