Ella Ferguson awakes alone in Italy, unsure of who she is, and a gorgeous man has claimed her as his own. He’s tall, dark, and sexy, with money and power, the kind of man who makes a girl want to be possessed. And he does possess her, whispering wicked wonderful promises to her, stealing her trust and her heart. Soon though, the past finds her, yanking her from a cocoon of passion and safety. Everything is not how it seems. The truth will shatter her world, but it can set her free, if it doesn’t destroy her first.
Finally Ella’s book is here! It only took six full length books and a smattering of novellas from the Inside Out series to get it too! Ok, so I might be slightly bitter that I had to wait this long to get answers on where in the world Sara’s best friend had disappeared to.
Denial begins with Ella waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there. The first thing she sees upon waking is a set of beautiful eyes attached to a gorgeous male body. The pounding in her head confirms a concussion which may or may not be the reason her brain is shielding her from what happened to her. Her rescuer, Kayden, insists she was mugged and he just happened by at the right time but her instincts are telling her he’s familiar. More then just a rescuer. He convinces her to trust him for her own protection and ensconces her behind the walls of his castle.
As Kayden and Ella try to unravel her past, slowly things start coming back to her. A rich man who beat her, another man she was going to marry, the possibility that a high powered mob boss is after her and the disappearance of a butterfly necklace. Nothing she remembers though ties her to Kayden who seems to have a plethora of secrets he’s determined to keep from her too.
As the leader of a group of shadowy, underground treasure hunters Kayden holds his past close, behind a wall of impenetrable indifference. Until Ella wakes and he becomes hopelessly attracted to her, which in the past, has gotten those closest to him killed. Even those he claims to be friends with don’t even get close to him. He’s insanely private and even allowing Ella into his inner domain speaks of his need to keep her close.
Denial is a stunning mix of mystery and eroticism that had me immediately wanting the second book to come out! Kayden and Ella scorch the pages as they navigate the murky depths of Ella’s memory. I have a feeling that everything will be tied back to Chris from the Inside Out series and the infinite money he’s been throwing at finding Ella through underground channels. It’s apparent from the start that Kayden knows more than he’s saying. Whether that’s because he’s not sure Ella is who she is claiming she is, or because he doesn’t think she’s ready for the truth, is up for debate. I enjoyed the light dominance that Kayden employed with Ella since he knows she has a few triggers that her brain is shielding her from.
Definitely a page turned that will keep you guessing even after the cliff hanger ending!
I give Denial by Lisa Renee Jones 4.75 stars!
