What he wants, he takes with no remorse or guilt.

She stood out in his club like a gem, unspoiled and untouched. A lamb among wolves, she clearly didn’t belong. Drawn to her innocence he watched as she was surrounded by men who saw what he did—but no one but him could touch her. He summoned her to his private quarters. He sensed her fear. He also recognized the desire in her eyes. And he knew she wouldn’t leave before he possessed her. She had no need to know his secrets. Not until he had her under his complete and utter control.

What he wants, she isn’t sure she can give him.

The moment he told her want he wanted, she couldn’t resist. Instinct told her to run, but her heart said stay and walk the fine line between pleasure and pain. Though she wasn’t sure she could ever completely surrender, the primal part of her wanted to try, even knowing this man could break her in ways she never imagined. Because once he possessed her, he owned her and it would be too late to turn back. She can only pray that he doesn’t destroy her in the end.

Hmmm where to begin, where to begin……

For the last few years I feel like I’m arguing with myself when I pick up a Maya Banks book. I want to love each and every one and sometimes they miss the mark. Yet, like the loyal reader I am I continue to pick them up hoping for the best,

Mastered is book one in a new trilogy and I’ll tell you right now it ends in a cliffhanger that made me want to scream because I LOATHE cliffhangers with the heat of a million suns. So to say I was ticked was an understatement, but it is what it is and I’m not holding it against the book…much.

Drake is the owner of a decadent nightclub where all of its patrons can fulfill their sexual fantasies. He always gets what he wants and from the moment Evangeline walked into his club he knew he wanted to possess her. Her inexperience and angelic nature seemed to instantly soothe his inner darkness and she became an addictive drug he had to have. And because this is a book, when he tells her she’s moving in with him to become his submissive, she agrees, even though they just met and she knows nothing about him.

From the beginning readers know that Drake is into more than just operating his club. He keeps secrets and he feels the need to have Evangeline protected at all times. Something a regular business owner wouldn’t feel the need to do. His “band of merry men” are big, rough and always at the ready to inflict some damage if their boss needs them to. They are protective of Evangeline as one by one they all fall to her charming wiles. Each one of them basically professes their love for her if Drake decides to screw her over, which I knew was coming, it was only a matter of time. Honestly, I loved all of them and wish they could each have a book of their own. I found myself wanting to know more about them even though they weren’t meant to be the focus.

Ok, so the characters were pretty predictable but overall I still enjoyed Mastered for the fluffy erotic romance I found it to be. It was unbearably sexy at times and I didn’t find myself bored at all. It read at a fast clip pace and even though at times I wanted to smack the naivete right out of Evangeline, at other times I admired her when she actually stood up for herself (which didn’t happen often). Drake was dark, brooding and extremely erotic, all things I want in my book boyfriends. He could also be demanding and forceful which at times was HAWT and at other times equally annoying.

Then of course came the cliffhanger………Grrrrrrrrr. Book two, Dominated, is slated to release at the beginning of May 2016 with book three, Kept, following in November 2016. I’m unsure if book three will be with the same couple or not but book two had better be Drake and Evangeline or I may need to come back and revisit this review.

I give Mastered by Maya Banks 3.75 stars!
