Privileged, wealthy, and wild: they are the Perfect Gentlemen of Creighton Academy. But the threat of a scandal has one of them employing his most deceptive—and seductive—talents… Recruited into the CIA at a young age, Connor Sparks knows how dirty the world can be. Only when he’s with his friends can he find some peace. So when an anonymous journalist threatens one of the Perfect Gentlemen, Connor vows to take down the person behind the computer, by whatever means necessary—even if it means posing as his target’s bodyguard.
Publishing a tabloid revealing Washington’s most subversive scandals has earned Lara Anderson the ire of the political scene—and a slew of death threats. To keep herself from ending up a headline, Lara hires a bodyguard, a man as handsome as he is lethal. When the bullets start to fly, Lara is surprised to find herself in Connor’s arms. But as they begin to unravel a mystery that just might bring down the White House, Lara is devastated when she discovers Connor’s true identity—and finds herself at the mercy of forces who will stop at nothing to advance their deadly agenda.
The second in this series moves the continued story arc along nicely. I enjoyed the characters, plot development and twists and turns this book has, the author keeps the reader on the edge of their seat throughout and I enjoyed the ride.
Conner Sparks is one of the Perfect Gentlemen, six men who went to Creighton Academy and have all become successful and powerful, including among them, a President. When Maddox, one of the six dies in a plane crash, they all come together to mourn his death, but things are not as they seem.
Lara Armstrong is the daughter of a senator, but she does not act like one, she is a bit of a hippy and often helps her neighbors and strangers on the street. She anonymously writes a blog about politicians who are not doing the right thing in government and it has now gotten her in trouble, someone knows who she is and has threatened her. Although she does not think she is in much danger, she hires a bodyguard to help find the person; however she has no idea what she has gotten herself into when she meets Conner.
The two enter into a tentative agreement based on lies and fictitious stories as they try to unravel a web of threats, suspicious deaths and international espionage. The chemistry is electric between them and they find their attraction too hard to deny, but she feels betrayed when she finds out the truth about him, she is furious and wants out, but the threat is still there and his friends need information only she can provide.
There is nonstop action from beginning to end; I had a hard time setting it down because I wanted to know what happens. There is subterfuge, danger, great sex and political twists and turns that kept me guessing throughout the story. The first book introduces us to these six men and their lives, book two continues the overall story arc of who killed Maddox but new theories and questions are presented and I can’t wait to find out more. And although this is the second book, the authors keep everyone updated and new readers will easily be caught up in the action without missing a beat.
Lara leads her own life; she has a powerful father but does not act like she grew up with money. She actively goes out of her way to give back by being nice to others, environmentally aware and she feels very genuine, so she is amazed that she is attracted to an alpha man who wants nothing to do with her vegan diet. She is a bit naïve and is a very trusting sole, which makes her so frustrating at times when she will not listen to those with more information and gets into trouble.
Conner is your perfect alpha hero, very possessive with a take charge attitude. He grew up very poor, always feeling like an outsider as he had scholarships to the prestigious academy while his friends were all very wealthy. He was recruited early by the CIA and has been around the world with plenty of blood on his hands. When he finds out about Lara, he is wary of her but the attraction pulls him in, he keeps her in the dark about what is going on longer than I wanted, but it eventually works out with a bit of groveling. When they were not worried about their own lives, they steamed up the pages as they found they could not stay away from each other. These authors know how to write great sex scenes.
The pace is fast from beginning to end as the team find answers and of course more questions before the story ends. The mystery of Maddox continues and others are uncovered as we wait for the next book that features Dax and a woman from his past. Secondary characters play huge roles in this series, the five men are extremely tight, and consider themselves brothers and the women they attract are welcomed into their family. Another great story by this author duo, they keep the tension high and the romance hot.
I give Seduction in Session by Shayla Black and Lexi Blake 4 stars!
