Carly Reynolds doesn’t have much faith in men. She no longer trusts her heart to lead—not after doing her so wrong. Raising her sons alone, Carly must learn to stand on her own. But she’s stronger now, wiser, and determined to move forward.
Derek Taylor, the sexy tatted drummer for Three Ugly Guys, doesn’t have much time for women, except to hook up and get off. He’d rather focus on writing music and living the career he’s always dreamed. Fate may have other plans.
Dr. Garrett Brooks is the talk of Children’s Hospital. As the new surgical resident, he is young, charming, and attractive. He takes an immediate interest in Carly but his demanding work schedule and her single mom status don’t leave much opportunity for dating.
Between love interests, two boys to raise, and a full time nursing job, Carly’s ability to stand strong is put to the test. And when strange things start to transpire Carly must face the reality that her past has come back to haunt. Can the woman she’s become dare to hope for love again? And which man will win her heart?
Uncovering Hope is the third and final book in the Uncovering Love series, but it can also be read as a standalone. Contains adult themes and explicit content and is intended for mature audiences.
Uncovering Hope by Kacey Shea, the third and final book in her Uncovering Love series, is a story about second chances. Carly Reynolds rebuilt her life after finding a way to leave a bad relationship behind her and give her children the life she always wanted. It was not easy, but she is finally where she wants to be and a chance at a real future.
Years ago Carly married the man who swept her off her feet when she was in college. Then as they settled in and started a family, their lives quickly changed, as her husband began to make bad choices. When forced to hide his activities, she decides it is time for a change.
Years later, Carly, a nurse at Children’s hospital, where she gives her patients her all, is finally content and looking forward to a better future for her and her sons. During this time, she meets Dereck Taylor, a drummer for a local band starting to get recognition, and is instantly attracted to him, even as alarm bells ring in her head.
Dereck Taylor has begun getting recognition as the drummer for Three Ugly Guys and is enjoying life hooking up women and walking away. Making no promises. His life is about his music career, both as a drummer and writing music. What else could he need or want.
Carly quickly decides to keep Dereck at arm’s length and be friends, though they quickly hit it off as Dereck volunteers time at Children’s hospital. They fall into an easy, flirtatious relationship where they form a bond. But after falling for a man like Dereck before, she is afraid of losing herself again and does not want to take a chance with her heart again.
Enter Dr. Garrett Brooks, the kind of man that would easily fit into Carly’s life and future plans. He is stable, attractive and showing interest in Carly. Carly suddenly finds herself with two men in her life, suspicious encounters and past secrets coming to light.
This was actually a nice, easy read with characters you want to root for. Carly, though at times a bit wishy-washy, thought she knew what was best for her and her two boys, and went after it. Dereck was both hot (and everything you expect from a rock star) but also sweet and very down to earth. Though he never thought to settle down, once he met Carly, he opened his heart to her and her boys. Garret on the other hand seemed too good to be true, but did not give up on Carly and showing her he could be what she really wants.
I have to say I also loved Kate, Jon, Tate and Evie. They were great and provided a lot of support and laughs throughout the book. I have not read the other two books in the series, but plan to read them soon.
I give Uncovering Hope by Kacey Shea 4 stars!
