Falling for someone can be dangerous, especially when someone wants to take them away from you. But what happens when fighting for the one you love could cost them their life?
For over two years, Summer Jacobs has tried to get her life back on track. A former nurse and now a prestigious restaurant owner, she’s living the dream just like her husband wanted. After watching him get killed in the MMA ring and almost losing her life herself, it left a scar on her soul. The thought of moving on scares her, but the local NFL star, Evan Townsend, is determined to catch her heart.
Forced to work with him and the football team, Summer succumbs to his relentless attempts at capturing her heart. He has the power to heal her, but there’s someone out there who wants to keep them apart. Even if it means getting rid of Evan permanently. Summer is being chased by hidden dangers and it’s up to Evan to catch her. The question is . . . will he get to her in time?
Catching Summer was my first book by L.P. Dover, but it will not be my last. I really enjoyed reading this book and will definitely be reading the rest of this series. Quick note, this was book six in the series, but my first, and I did not feel lost at all. I felt L.P. Dover did a great job to help new readers understand all the characters and jump right in.
In Catching Summer, we meet Summer after the loss of her husband in a MMA ring. After witnessing his death, Summer is having a hard time putting it all behind her, as you would imagine when losing someone you love so violently. She knows she needs to take steps to move forward, as this is what Austin would want, but where to start?
Two years later, Summer has slowly been putting the past behind her, but is still afraid to open her heart. How could she, when she knows how it feels to have it break and hurt so much. Then Evan Townsend, NFL wide receiver for the Carolina Cougars, a long-time friend, turns up the heat to win her heart. Even so, she did not feel she needed that type of spotlight in her life again, but her heart says different.
Evan has been in Summer’s life for a while and has been biding his time. He knew she was broken and lost, but once she begins to show signs of being ready for more, he knew he was never going to let her go. And now that she may be ready, there is someone intent on keeping them apart. He wants her, but at what cost?
I love stories about finding love again after loss, and Summer was so lost and broken, it was hard to see a future for her, but after some time, she realized Austin would not want her to live the rest of her life alone. She worked very hard for a few years to put herself together. She was strong and determined to put her life back together and slowly she did. I loved that about her.
Evan was a sweetheart from the beginning. Though he knew finding women to keep him company would not be hard at all, he was looking for more. Summer was just what he wanted. Once she was ready, he followed her pace and let her decide how to move forward.
It was a sweet story between the two main characters and the supporting cast was a hoot! So much so, that I am adding all the books in the series to my to be read list. There were moments that were so sweet, my heart melted and others where I could not stop laughing. Definitely a book worth reading.
I give Catching Summer by L.P. Dover 4 stars!
