Kellan Boyd always gets what he wants—except that one infuriating city girl who bumped into his new chick magnet sports car, dared to call him a jerk, and basically threw his pity check in his face.
Fast forward three months later. When Ava Cross suddenly knocks on his door in the middle of a storm, soaking wet and in dire need of help, he’s determined to settle old scores and finally get her between the sheets where she belongs.
Ava knows Kellan is a complex man with a dark past and a wild reputation he can’t deny. Forced to stay, Ava begins a desperate search for the truth about the one man she wants to despise and quickly discovers that the passion she feels for him isn’t just deep…it’s dangerous to her heart.
Kellan is a beautiful distraction. When the traps of her own weakness stand in the way, Ava is faced with one choice only: peel off the layers of a man who is a wild cowboy at heart.
Author’s note – Beautiful Distraction is a full-length standalone novel with no cliffhanger. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.
Ava Cross is a bit uptight, focused on her career and headed back to work when she literally runs into Kellan Boyd when he crashed into her car with his red Lamborghini in New York City. There was definitely a strong first impression, but not necessarily a good one. Ava cannot get Kellan out of her mind but knows what a beautiful distraction like Kellan would mean to her life. However, it does not stop her from thinking of what could have been had she said yes. She doesn’t do casual hook ups and has been burned in the past so she protects herself against everyone. Especially the guy she desperately wants…Kellan. Ava knows she is something that Kellan never gets…a challenge. Is that all she’ll ever be to him?
Kellan Boyd is not someone who is ever told no and he is absolutely stunned Ava turns him down. He offered to fix her car along with a night of pleasure and as much as she wants it, she turns it down thinking she knows exactly the type of man he is. Little does she know the secrets that he is hiding.
The first encounter the two had left quite an impression on both of them. There is a strong sexual attraction between Ava and Kellan. Three months later, they have a chance meeting once again as she ends up on his doorstep in Montana. Fate has a tendency of stepping in where these two are concerned and they are about to learn that the attraction is still there.
As much as Ava knows exactly what will happen if she takes a chance with Kellan, he is more than ready and willing to take her on. There are some many real emotions and some surprising twists to their tale. Ava becomes an open book to Kellan, hoping to get him to open up in the process. He shares a few bits of his life with her but for the most part, diverts the attention right back to Ava. This leads to Ava thinking all sorts of things. But when she finds out the truth as to who Kellan really is, she is not sure that she can handle everything that comes along with him.
I enjoyed Ava and Kellan and the banter between the two of them. It’s a nice story about fate stepping in to bring these two back together, where the universe thinks they belong. This was an easy read that I finished in one sitting. It was a pleasant stand-alone and had a wonderful ending. I’m also curious to see if the side characters in the book, Kellan’s brothers Ryder and Cash, Ava’s friend Mandy, get their own books.
I give Beautiful Distraction by J.C. Reed 4 stars!
