She was off limits,
But he couldn’t resist.
There are just some guys you don’t touch–even someone as innocent and inexperienced as Ella Shaw knows that. But when her brother’s best friend is up for grabs and willing, she can’t resist. After all, she’s wanted him for years…
On leave from the army, Tyler Dare is just looking for a little fun, but his best friend’s sister is off limits. Yet unable to deny how sexy and alluring she is, he finds it all too easy to succumb to a night of passion and heat that ends the next morning in the worst way possible.
Now, Ella is stranded on a tropical island with a hurricane bearing down, and only Tyler can save her. It’s his chance to make amends for the past and show the woman he’s never forgotten that he’s coming after her . . . in more ways than one.
They say you never forget your first, and that’s all too true for Ella. Her first time might have been with the man of her dreams, but she was young and stupid and kinda drunk when she wiggled herself right into the bed of her best friends older brother, Tyler. What started out as magical quickly ended in Tyler’s disgust in himself which Ella mistook as disgust in her. Now years later, she still carries the scars of those formative years, thinking she isn’t worthy of a man of Tyler’s caliber and that she’s horrible in bed.
Stuck on a island with a hurricane barreling down on it, getting mugged and ending up in the hospital, Elle doesn’t think it can get much worse. Until Tyler shows up to take care of her at his sisters request, and bring her home in one piece. Now she’s alone with the man who screwed up her self esteem and it looks like he might be out to prove to her how wrong she is about herself.
Seeing the devastation his actions have wrecked on Elle makes Tyler feel horrible. Seeing her in the hospital has kicked his protective instincts into overdrive and he’s determined to get her back home and show her just how wrong he was so many years ago. He may not be in it for the long haul but he can definitely improve her thoughts on sex. Elle is a challenge he couldn’t possibly turn away from.
But trouble has followed Elle home from the island and someone is out to take what Tyler is quickly considering his. Can he stick around long enough to make sure Elle is safe once and for all?
I adored this book just as much as I’ve adored everything else I’ve ever picked up by Carly Phillips! Her characters are well rounded and realistic and the story line is always compelling.
I found Elle to be a wonderful heroine with her simple demeanor and easy grace. She is the girl next door, the one who everyone is friends with. I felt connected to her from the start because Phillips voice is just so entertaining. Elle felt REAL to me. As if I knew her already. Even when upset she thinks with a clear head and she always wears her heart on her sleeve, even when she probably shouldn’t. I loved how the entire Dare family enfolded her within the ranks and considered her just as much family as their own blood. Her childhood might not have been perfect but it molded her into the successful, driven woman she is and she is aware of herself enough to acknowledge that.
Tyler is the typical, I carry the world on my shoulders, hero. He thinks he can control everything and blames himself for anything that slips past him. Because of that, he is very hard on himself, even years after the fact. Knowing what his actions years before have done to Elle he makes it his mission to set her straight, yet inevitably he finds himself falling for the woman who doesn’t find herself worthy of him. Phillips paints him excellently and as the reader I found him incredibly loving, gentle ,but in charge, and oh so hot. His slightly domineering ways was just the right ratio between alpha and asshole to make me love him.
The thing I love most about this series is how Phillips makes them all stand alone, yet incorporates all the past characters so easily within the current story. This is a family you can depend on, you can love and you can re-read again and again. As always, I look forward to more from Carly Phillips and can’t wait for the next thing she cooks up!
I give Dare To Take by Carly Phillips 4.50 stars!
