Type: Historical Romance

Elise deVries is not what she seems. By night, the actress captivates London theatergoers with her chameleon-like ability to slip inside her characters. By day, she uses her mastery of disguise to work undercover for Chegarre & Associates, an elite agency known for its discreet handling of indelicate scandals. But when Elise is tasked with locating the missing Duke of Ashland, she finds herself center stage in a real-life drama.
Noah Ellery left the glamour of the London aristocracy to pursue a simpler life in the country. He’s managed to avoid any complications or entanglements—that is, until he lays eyes on Elise and realizes there’s more to this beautiful woman than meets the eye. But when Elise reveals her real identity—and her true feelings for him—the runaway duke must confront the past he left behind . . . to keep the woman he loves forever.
This author has become one of my favorites, she writes fun, witty historical romances where the hero and heroine are a joy to read about. This is the second in the series that features a business called Chegarre and Associates, a unique partnership that helps the London aristocracy with troubling problems that are not to be mentioned.
Elise deVries is an actress at times but mostly she helps make unwanted problems disappear for London’s rich and infamous. She is a partner with Ivory Moore (Duke of My Heart) and her brother Alex at Chegarre and Associates. When Lady Abigail Ellery comes to their offices asking for help in locating her brother Noah, Elise is ready to solve the problem, but she does not realize how it will change her life. Noah has been missing for two decades and although presumed dead, Lady Abigail believes he is still alive somewhere because of a tip, and she needs him to claim his title, the Duke of Ashland before her uncle kills their mother.
Noah Ellery has been living a quiet life unaware of his father’s death or his mother’s imprisonment in Bedlam. He washed his hands of his family, happy for them to think he is dead because of the way they treated him when he was young. When he meets Elise there is some misidentification that causes trust issues but the attraction between them surprises them both. She is extremely stubborn and it is comical how she digs in her heels because as much as he refuses she is determined to bring him back to London to help his sister and reclaim the title.
I really enjoyed this one, the characters from Chegarre and Associates are highly entertaining and so much fun to get to know. Noah and Elise are engaging together and I found the story hard to put down.
Noah was a happy man living in the outskirts of the city without a worry in the world. He knew he was dead to others and did not care; he wanted nothing to do with a past that featured torture and betrayal from his parents. Unfortunately the past has come back to haunt him and he must either deny it or face the truth.
I love Elise, we met her in the previous book and I enjoy her spunk and wit, she is also very determined and stubborn, she will not take no for an answer from Noah as she tries to get him back to London. The two have an instant attraction to each other but between the trust issues, his past, the danger that he is in because of his uncle they have some obstacles to overcome. She also realizes that when he becomes the duke, he will need a woman of wealth and good family for him to marry and believes she is not the one for him.
I loved these two; their witty banter had me smiling throughout. Yes, there were some sorrowful times when they each remembered painful pasts and a future that at times is unreachable, but the author used compassion and humor to create a wonderful tale. The chemistry between Elise and Noah is electric and I enjoyed reading the steamy scenes they were in together. Secondary characters were a delight to this story; I enjoyed seeing Ivory again as she helped with many details of their charade and of course Alex whose story is next much to my delight. I have yet to read a story by Ms. Bowen that I have not loved and hope to enjoy many more.
I give A Duke to Remember by Kelly Bowen 4.5 stars!
