Seattle attorney Miranda Rose arrives in Las Vegas determined to keep her best friend-with-benefits from making a costly mistake – marrying some stranger just to save his family trust. But once there, Miranda discovers she’s the surprise bride! One red-hot honeymoon later, they’re back to their over-scheduled lives on opposite coasts. But a marriage of convenience with regularly scheduled sexytimes turns complicated when Miranda gets the shock of a lifetime: she’s pregnant…with twins. Miranda has always wanted a family of her own, but her infertility made it impossible. Besides, Callum’s difficult upbringing places him adamantly in the no-kid zone. Now she must decide between the man she’s been in love with for years and the children she’s longed for. Or will Callum surprise her yet again and come through when it matters most?
Jenna Bayley-Burke is a new author to me who has written Just Married, the first book from her brand new series, More than Friends. It is a quick read with a friends-with-benefits storyline that moves into much more. It can be read as a standalone.
Attorney Miranda Rose was sent to Seattle from New York when her parents passed away. Miranda’s Aunt Rose was given custody of her and she always felt that she was an inconvenience to her aunt from day one. Miranda always knew she would never treat her children that way but was also told she just may never be able to conceive.
Callum Kerr has not exactly had the best childhood. Callum runs his father’s New York City based businesses, which provides him with a lavish lifestyle and an around the clock schedule.
Miranda and Callum have been friends with benefits since college. Being on separate coasts, they meet up at mutual friends’ social functions and enjoy amazing sex. Callum knows nothing about how Miranda truly feels about him. Their friends are even less aware of what’s been going on between Callum and Miranda.
With Callum’s father passing away, he will need to get married in order to save his family’s inheritance. After Miranda was there for him when he needed her most, he has decided that she would be the perfect person for a non-traditional marriage of convenience. She’s on the west coast, he’s on the east, and they could meet in the middle for mind-blowing sex. Callum tricks Miranda into getting married but they agree to the terms. Once Miranda finds out she’s pregnant and knows Callum had no plans to be a father, she takes it upon herself to raise the children.
There were a few things that bothered me with this story.
First, who tricks someone into getting married? Hey, come on out to Vegas, have sex with me to convince me not to get married and oh, by the way, you’re going to be my wife?
I felt as though there were just too many friends in the story. I was confused as to who was with whom and what was going on with all of them. Also, out of all these friends, you mean to tell me NONE of them figured out Miranda and Callum were getting it on any chance they got??
Miranda was four months pregnant, with twins, before she even knew. How is that even possible?!?
Miranda just keeps pushing Callum away even when he’s trying to figure it all out and do the right thing. Thankfully, he comes to his senses and drops everything for the wife pushing him away and then we jump right to the end where all is forgiven and we get a HEA. WHAT?!?!?!?
This book was a quick read with some very hot sex scenes but in my opinion, that’s all it had going for it.
I give Just Married by Jenna Bayley-Burke 2 stars
