Madison Phillips is focused on making her new coffee shop a success. She also wouldn’t mind if the sexiest cop in Seattle, Gabriel Martinez, would start seeing her as more than just his best friend’s little sister. When her shop gets robbed and she’s the only one who can identify the increasingly violent Espresso Bandit, Gabe’s there to keep her safe. Having Gabe act as her personal bodyguard is certainly no hardship, and Maddie’s ready to try anything to tempt him into providing some hands-on protection.
Maddie has worked hard to open her new coffee shop. With minimal help from her wealthy parents too. Maybe she doesn’t know a single thing about making a good cappuccino, but hey, that’s what employees are for right? She’s confident in her abilities to manage and she’s confident in her desire for her brother’s best friend, Gabe. The sexy cop who has filled out in all the right places.
Being subtle isn’t in Maddie’s nature and Gabe certainly knows when he’s on the receiving end of her wiles. Determined not to go down the road to break all “bro codes”, he rebukes her efforts. Well, for the most part anyway. There’s only so many times a guy can say no when everything else is screaming yes.
When Maddie’s brand new shop is the scene for a robbery and she ends up hurt, Gabe knows he needs to protect the feisty female. Protecting himself from her though is entirely other situation.
This was my first Shelli Stevens book, but it definitely will not be my last. Other than the horrible name given to the robber (Espresso Bandit? Really?) I really enjoyed this one. It was the perfect mix between erotic romance, contemporary romance and suspense.
Maddie as our heroine was just awesome. She came from money but really put a lot of thought and focus into her future and she didn’t do it while relying solely on her wealthy parents. She followed her dreams and built her shop from the ground up. Her brazen attempts to attract Gabe were both amusing and hot. I loved how she didn’t hide what she wanted.
Gabe’s resistance to Maddie’s charms didn’t last very long, probably because she was throwing herself at him at every turn. What starts out as a need to simply protect the sister of his best friend, turns into a whole lot more while they are sequestered in a cabin deep in the woods. His initial impression of a spoiled rich girl seems to change over the time they spend together yet he had a hard time opening himself up to her about his own past.
While the suspense towards the end is a bit unorthodox, I think it helped both characters see each other in a different light, which is what they needed to move forward with their budding relationship. Oh, and the sex? Yeah, the sex in this one was H.O.T. Stevens definitely knows how to capture a readers attention and leave them breathless. Wow.
Grounds For Seduction is smooth, steaming and sweet. Just like I want my coffee.
I give Grounds For Seduction by Shelli Stevens 4 stars!
