Ethan is the boy who climbed into my bedroom every night.
He’s everything I love.
Laced with everything I despise.
He’s every happy memory.
And every shattered dream.
He’s my everything.
But he broke every part of me.
I’m supposed to hate him.
But I can’t.
I don’t know how.
Broken Dreams is the story of Leslie and Ethan, high school sweethearts who were separated for 8 years due to unfortunate circumstances.
Leslie is just a girl focused on ballet. Ethan is just a boy trying not to fall into his father’s footsteps.
Leslie and Ethan were neighbors. Unfortunately, Leslie was well aware of what Ethan was having to deal with at home. One night, Leslie witnessed first hand what was going on in Ethan’s house and invited the poor boy into her room so he had a safe place to stay.
Nights turned into days, days into weeks and weeks into years as the love between Ethan and Leslie grew into so much more. Dreams were shared, plans were made and they were moving on from town once they graduated high school. However, life got messy and one night, an accident changed their lives, their hopes and dreams, forever.
Eight years later, Leslie is back in Arizona to deal with family issues all while trying to avoid the man she so desperately has tried to forget. Her first love, her first everything. Leslie has spent years trying to forget the man who just up and left her when she needed him the most.
Coming back to Arizona, dealing with family, old friends and a lover she never could get over make Leslie and Ethan’s trials and tribulations far from over.
Will Leslie ever be able to forgive Ethan? Did Ethan really leave Leslie likes she thinks? How will Leslie ever be able to go back to her life outside of Arizona?
I’m not usually a fan of stories that go back and forth from past to present. However, this story was written so well that I didn’t mind it one bit. The story of how Leslie and Ethan came to be, their trial and tribulations were explained flawlessly. The issues that both of them had with their parents, get ready to pull out your tissues. And the twist I didn’t see coming towards the end? It made their relationship that much more meaningful.
I give Broken Dreams by Callie Anderson 4 stars!
