Sometimes you have to tear everything down to build something new…
Sayer Cole is frozen inside. At least, that’s what it’s felt like for as long as she can remember. She’s yet to let anyone past her icy exterior – and the one guy she thinks might melt her heart couldn’t possibly be interested in someone so uptight.
Rough, hard and hot-as-hell, Zeb Fuller has rebuilt his life and his construction business since protecting his family sent him to jail all those years ago. His elegant client, Sayer, makes him feel like a Neanderthal in denim, but despite the many hints that he’s been dropping to get to know her better, she seems oblivious to his charms.
Just as things finally start to heat up, Zeb’s past comes back to haunt him and he needs Sayer’s professional help to right a wrong and to save more than himself. As these opposites dig in for the fight of their lives, fire and ice collide in an unstoppable explosion of steam…
What rock have I been living under? Why have I never read a book by Jay Crownover? I loved everything about this book. The characters are real and flawed and have super cool names. The chemistry is so believable and off the charts hot. I honestly don’t know how to write a review for this because I was caught completely off guard by how fantastic this book was!
I love stories with an alpha hero who sees a woman and just KNOWS that she’s it for him. Zeb Fuller is a man’s man, badass to the core, but with a heart of gold. He’s big, built, passionate and sexy…. the epitome of masculinity. There’s just something to be said about a man who works with his hands to create something beautiful. Zeb has a past: he served time in prison for assault after he beat the crap out of his sister’s abuser. When he got out, he was determined to make his family, and himself proud. He works hard, keeps his head down and his temper under control. His home restoration business is taking off and he is making a name for himself in the business.
Enter Sayer. She is the sister of one of Zeb’s friends, and from the minute he sees her, he can’t take his eyes off of her. She is pristine…. the buttoned up lawyer with the perfect hair and unflappable calm demeanor. Icy cold and perfect, but not bitchy. Zeb immediately acknowledges his insane attraction to her, and he can’t wait to get his hands on her. He wants to mess her up a little and see what’s under the cool outer shell she presents to the world.
Sayer Cole is broken. Raised by her cold, calculating and verbally abusive father after her mother’s suicide, Sayer could do nothing right. After years of showing no emotion and always saying and doing the right thing, she has closed herself off to everyone. That is until she finds out she has a brother. Discovering she has someone who shares her blood, someone she can be family to, completely shatters her world. She picks up and moves from Seattle to Denver to be close to her brother Rowdy. It’s through Rowdy that she meets Zeb, and Sayer is totally unprepared for her feelings for him. Zeb is a force of nature in her calm world, and even though she is desperately clinging to the walls around her heart, she knows that if anyone has the power to break them down, it’s him.
Sayer and Zeb were terrific characters. The author made them seem so real… everything from the descriptions of what they wore to their dialogue to the love scenes. The fact that Zeb needed Sayer’s professional help as a family lawyer only added another element to the story that made it even better. I loved how Zeb recognized that something inside Sayer needed to be restored, and he knew that was what he did best. Jay Crownover is an author I will definitely be adding to my must read list. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!
I give Built by Jay Crownover 5 stars!
