In a family of cold-hearted black sheep,
I, Axel Rutherford, am the blackest.
My father has hated me since the day I was born. The feeling was mutual. In the shady underworld that was my legacy, Cleo McCarthy became my light. She was beautiful, passionate, and my whole world. So naturally my father had to destroy us. First he sent me away. Next he claimed Cleo as his own. But now I’ve returned, and nothing will stop me from taking back everything that is rightfully mine.

He was the love of my life – when my life was still my own.
We were young enough to believe we would last forever, Axel and I. But neither of us realized how cruel life – and our families – could be. Now I’m trapped in a gilded cage: desired by Axel, who must never know the full truth, and controlled by his father, who would sooner see me dead than free. And I wouldn’t even care, except that it’s no longer only my life at stake.

I am absolutely, hands down, loving this series! Zara Cox has hooked me with her spellbinding story telling and erotic scenes. After reading book one (then called I, Porn Star and now renamed Beautiful Liar) I wasn’t sure she could top Quinn and Lucky, but low and behold she managed it with Black Sheep by giving us two characters, hell bent on revenge but with a level 10 combustible lust between them.

Axel is a man no one dares to mess with. Brought up in a house with a family full of mobsters, isn’t for the weak. Not bowing to their expectations made him even stronger. The only bright spot in his young bleak existence was Cleo, the daughter of his crooked fathers business partner. When her seeming betrayal cuts him to the bone, and his father ships him off to the military, he thinks only of revenge. Never knowing the full story, but only that which was hand fed to him be a sadistic father determined to make him bow to his will.

Seeing Axel again after so many years does nothing to quell the rage Cleo feels for him, or the desire. Believing he is responsible for killing her father and leaving her mother permanently comatose she knows she shouldn’t still have feelings for him, yet she can’t seem to shake them. Living a hell of an existence under Axel’s fathers roof, held by extortion and threats, she lives in a gold cage, scared of what each day will bring.

Black Sheep was hot, hot, hot..and I loved every minute of it! Dark and twisted, I only wish I had more. It would be great of Cox revisited this family because I’d love to learn more about Axel’s brothers too. Axel himself a master of dirty talking, brooding and sex personified. His darkness was rightfully earned and I counted down the chapters until he learned the whole truth about his past and the role he unwittingly played in his fathers illegal activities. The hatred that burned within him was somewhat misplaced and when everything came to light, his emotional reaction was heartfelt and raw.

As a heroine, Cleo is definitely to be admired. Having been fed lies and threats of her own for years, how she survived is admirable to say the least. These two broken souls together, healed each other in some of the best reading I’ve picked up this year. The sex was erotic, imaginative and well wrote overall. Their relationship rekindled and grew at a believable pace leaving me turning pages furiously as I tried to finish in record time. I can’t wait for more of this series!

Quinn and Lucky make brief appearances and along with Axel’s brothers, the enigma that is his business partner, known only as “B” plays a integral part. Perhaps a book is in our future for the kick ass woman who seems scared of something catching up to her? One can only hope….

I give Black Sheep by Zara Cox 5 stars!
