I would love everyone to welcome Inez Kelley to the blog today! She is a super talented romance author that I found a few weeks ago. Her writing is awesome and so if you haven’t checked her out, you certainly need to!
*Waving* Hi Inez! I’m so happy you stopped by today! I know you have a new release coming out today and I want to share everything about that with my readers. Sweet As Sin has been getting FAB-U-LOUS reviews and I myself am totally looking forward to reading it! But we will talk about that in a minute, first I wanted to ask you a few questions, ok? Ok!
Tell us a bit about you? What got you into writing?
I was born this way. I used to tell stories to my dolls as a child. I started writing them down when I was 11 and have never stopped. Other than my BFF, who read everything I wrote, I never let anyone else read my stories. Every single time I’d mention wanting to be a writer as a child/teen, I was told I needed to get a real job and not a pipe dream. I was flat out told I’d never be good enough to write professionally. And yet, none of these people had read anything I’d written.
So I hid it until I had been married a few years. Then my husband read one story I’d left pulled up on the computer and asked me why I didn’t try to get published. I told him I wasn’t good enough. He asked if I would ever tell my children they weren’t good enough for something that they’d had a passion for that lasted over 30 years.
I sold my first manuscript to Samhain Publishing within one year of that day.
Awww, I already love your hubby! What a loving guy to encourage you like that when no one else ever had. I know plenty of authors that are struggling to make that first sale and so I hope their husbands are as awesome as yours is!
When was your very first sale for publication?
JINXEDA romantic comedy
What have done between then and now?
Everything? Wow, okay *cracks knuckles* First JINXED placed second in theRomance Writers Ink 2010 More than Magic Contestfor both Romantic Comedy and First Book. It was also nominated for 2009 Cupid and Psyche Award.
Then I wrote/sold a fantasy romance titled MYLA BY MOONLIGHTwhich went on to be one of this year’s finalists in the2011 EPIC AWARDS. Wish me luck come March 2012 when they announce the winners! It is the only story I cried while writing, it is that emotional.
I was one of the launch authors with Carina Press with the stand alone sequel to that with SALOME AT SUNRISEthat earned 4 stars from Romantic Times Book Reviews. I teamed up with the devilish Ginny Glass for our steamy three erotic romance novella DIRTY LAUNDRY SERIES.
In November 2010, I released LIPSTICK ON HIS COLLAR from Samhain Publishing. My next release is from Carina Press and is a dark contemporary super-length romance named SWEET AS SIN. I have a Romantic Comedy titled TURN IT UP coming in August 2011 from them as well.
Goodness gracious woman you have been busy! That is a ton of work for that short amount of time! And all super awesome reads and reviews don’t lie! Sweet As Sin is your newest release, tell us about it?
It is dark and heart wrenching and gritty and I love it. I wrote this story like a demon possessed robot. In between raising 3 kids, working 40 hours a week at 911, I wrote 120,000 words in exactly 60 days. I could not sleep until I got the story out. (it has been edited and polished since then but is still a super-length 104,000 word story).
Bestselling YA author John Murphy is the acclaimed Master of Monsters. But when the door creaks shut, the monsters master him. His haunted past has destined him to hell, but he won’t let that get in the way of enjoying his present or his delicious new neighbor. Enthralled by her, his secrets begin to unravel and the pages of his latest manuscript are written by his deepest fears…and in blood.
Pastry chef owner of The Sugar Shack, Livvy is as sinfully sweet as the confections she makes and just as irresistible. Her hidden passions erupt when a spicy new neighbor moves in next door and she is powerless against the lure of a man familiar with the erotic delicacies of life. She realizes there are more layers to him than she imagined, each one a delicious or frightening discovery. As lust turns to love, Livvy will master the monsters John keeps in the dark— but at what price?
Now THAT is the way to get someone to read the book…WHEW that is GOOD! Wait wait everyone…at least wait till the end of the interview to run off and buy it….
Over the next year what do you plan on working on? Any goals for 2011?
Get caught up on laundry? Find my office floor? Oh, and I have a few works in progress. I am super close to submitting the third and final fantasy titledDARACH IN DARKNESSand hope it finds a nice home. Plus I think there is a romantic comedy stuck somewhere on my hard drive than needs finished.
That sounds like a story that needs told for sure. I love shifter stories…and so this is something right up my alley. Shifters? Magic? HELL YES!
Are you a full time writer or do you have a 9-5 job as well?
I write full-time now but was a 911 dispatcher for over 10 years.
What a cool job! I’ve always wanted to do something like that! But *shhhhh* I’m glad you’re focused on just writing now…that means more awesomeness from you hehehe.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
Wow, hard question. I have too many to name. I read almost any genre except Regency.
I know, I know…I wouldn’t be able to answer either because there are just to many that I enjoy..and I’m finding new ones everyday!
Any books coming out that you can’t wait to get your hands on?
Lover Unleashed by JR Ward
OMG I KNOW!! I love the Black Dagger Brotherhood books! I can’t wait for that book!
What would you say has been your biggest accomplishment either professionally or personally?
So far, contracting SWEET AS SIN. It is not the typical boy meets girl romance.
Have I said how excited I am for you? And I think the reason it’s going to be awesome is because it isn’t your typical story. I love stuff like that. Originality always wins out in my mind over cookie cutter stories.
In 5 years where do you hope to be?
At my keyboard, pounding out stories
Well, I hope you are as well! Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by today! I am thrilled for you and wish you the best…I hope I get to read every single one of your stories!
