John Murphy is tormented by nightmares. A bestselling young-adult author, he writes the ultimate fantasy: stories where good always triumphs. He knows better. His past has shown him the worst in people—and in himself. When he moves next door to the sexy, vibrant Livvy—a woman completely unlike his usual one-night stands—he’s driven to explore every curve of her delicious body.

Pastry chef Livvy knows that giving in to the temptation that is John Murphy won’t lead to anything permanent, but she deserves a passionate summer fling. John discovers she’s as sweet as the confections she bakes while Livvy slowly unravels his secrets. But what will happen when she uncovers them all?

Johns feels the prickles of fear constantly. The sensation never dies no matter how old he gets. His past comes rearing its ugly head at the most inopportune times. Walking through hell isn’t something a person normally does. John did. For years he lived with an abusive stepfather. Taking the punishment and pain not only for himself but to spare his baby sister. Years later those scars have produced an award-winning author and a reclusive man.

Buying a house is his first step toward claiming him independence, and at 38-years-old it’s been a long time coming. He never expects to fall for the sweet pastry chef next door. From the moment he meets Livvy, he is smitten. She is the first person to ever attempt to chase away his demons. Livvy is his salvation and his mind is warring for control over whether or not he is worthy of it.

Livvy’s business is falling on hard times. People just aren’t buying like they used to. She needs to relax a bit and not think about her bottom line. What better way than to have a fling with her new sexy neighbor. Noticing his internal pain isn’t hard and soon Livvy is learning about his tortured past. She is falling hard for the man who thinks his soul is blackened and beyond repair. Only Livvy is able to see the light…the promise their love can bring.

I fully admit to spending half this book in tears, gulping for air and looking not so stellar with tear tracks and a red snotty nose.  Sweet As Sin left me feeling giddy and horribly anguished. I felt so horrible for John and all he had to endure growing up. His pain as an adult still as fresh as the day it was inflicted. The mind is a terribly complex thing, able to bring forth memories in a split second. Brought on by a look, a smell or an emotion. How awful to live in fear of those because you don’t want to relive your past. The torture upon his small, childs body brought tears to my eyes.

Johns character had so many layers. I spent the entire book peeling them back one by one until Inez showed me his soul. No, he’s not easy to live with. He can be mean and he knows exactly what to say to inflict the most optimal pain. Underneath it all though, lives the soul of a fighter. One who is crying out to be loved. To be rocked in the night. Someone to chase away his fears and leave him feeling protected. Livvy is his savior. No matter how hard he tries, she can’t give up on him. Livvy’s ability to see through all his roughness was astounding. I loved her character and her backbone in the face of his anger.

Inez gives us not only an EXCELLENT story about John and Livvy but we also get to experience John’s mind through that of his own characters. So we actually get two stories rolled into one book. I thought that was extremely unique and something I haven’t ever personally read before.

I loved the complexity of the story. I loved the layers presented in the storyline. I loved the uniqueness of the characters. I loved this book.

Sweet As Sin is a book not to be missed. Be prepared with your tissues and watch a story with such sweet decadence open before your eyes. Inez Kelley has a winner with this one!

I give Sweet As Sin by Inez Kelley 5 stars!

  1. I saw you Tweeting about this book yesterday and thought “Now I’m going to have to add ANOTHER book to my TBR pile!”. Five stars…that’s amazing. I’m definitely checking it out

    1. I really enjoyed this. The story was fantastic and the sex scenes smoldering. I htink some people had issues with the dark-ish storyline combined with the hot sex but I love it when I find an author who can seamlessly blend the two. Which is what I feel Inez did in this one.

  2. Wow! You did a much better review than mine! I, like you, spent the majority of the book either crying, or reading as fast as I could to simply absorb the book. When I got to the end I was so flabbergasted that I couldn’t find words to express what an outstanding book this was. Like you said – this book blew me out of the water – absolutely outstanding!! Thanks for such an outstanding review!!
