Haven Moore can’t control her visions of a past with a boy called Ethan, and a life in New York that ended in fiery tragedy. In our present, she designs beautiful dresses for her classmates with her best friend Beau. Dressmaking keeps her sane, since she lives with her widowed and heartbroken mother in her tyrannical grandmother’s house in Snope City, a tiny town in Tennessee. Then an impossible group of coincidences conspire to force her to flee to New York, to discover who she is, and who she was.

In New York, Haven meets Iain Morrow and is swept into an epic love affair that feels both deeply fated and terribly dangerous. Iain is suspected of murdering a rock star and Haven wonders, could he have murdered her in a past life? She visits the Ouroboros Society and discovers a murky world of reincarnation that stretches across millennia. Haven must discover the secrets hidden in her past lives, and loves¸ before all is lost and the cycle begins again.

This will be a short review as I DNF (did not finish) this book. I went into it really hoping I’d love it. I had heard mixed things and when that happens it’s usually a book I enjoy. The concept of reincarnation is a lovely one. Finding your soul mate life after life and being together. The idea that love never dies and no matter how many times you leave this earth, a piece of you remains to be reborn over and over.

That being said I found the story line a bit dull and at times hard to follow. There were entire sections of the book that I kept saying…please something happen…anything happen. It’s just way too drawn out for my tastes. The characters in the book didn’t connect to me at all. I felt bad for the female lead, Haven, for having to deal with her grandmother for so many years…but past that I didn’t feel anything at all. The male lead, Iain, was cute in a school boy type of way but I didn’t find myself thinking about him…which, for me, has to occur for me to get into a book.

I read up until Haven reaches New York and finally finds Iain, who is Ethan from her past life as Constance. They were killed in a fire so many years ago and Haven suspects that the men following her around have something to do with it. they flee to Rome. I personally suspect that this Adam guy that Iain is suspected of killing has something to do with it. Since Ethan was suspected of a murder of a famous doctor in thier past life. Confused yet? Yeah, me too. This was roughly at page 200 out of 411.

Also the cover bugged me. Not that the author had anything to do with the cover. And perhaps an explanation was made further into the book then what I read but the dragon is supposed to be an endless loop. The cover looks like a dragon eating a separate tail with no head. Odd. Again, perhaps this is explained later but I dunno…bugged me. Especially since in the parts of the book I read it’s described as the normal sign…one head, one tail, endless loop.

So I suspect that since the reviews I read varied, The Eternal Ones is a book you either get or you don’t. Sadly, I didn’t.
